The VS V6 was major change time, it went from MAP on the VR to MAF, and from Multiport injection to Sequential (and all the hardware changes to make this possible). It also was the first with the 1mbit chip which is twice the size of the 16 bit HC11's address space, meaning banked programming, therefore much more complex for hacking.

A lot of the hard work has been done with Tunerpro and the associated xdf's.
As a starting point, download the $51 xdf from the xdf section https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... hp?f=7&t=5
Then download a $51 VS bin file (CKUL4113.zip) from here https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... hp?f=7&t=3
NOTE: There are a few variants of $51, S/C ones won't be correct with this xdf.
The bin file is the program and data that is stored on the memcal (the thing with the blue cover) and has been read withan EPROM reader.

Download and install Tunerpro and have a look into the bin with the xdf.

This at least will give you a feel for what can be done before you get started and will cost you nothing to look at.

it does seem a bit daunting when you first start out but once you get the hang of it you'll be right.

if you arn't confident to put a socket in your memcal get a second memcal and mail it to me, i'd be happy to put a socket in it for a small fee!

... or get one of VL400's vs nvram boards. This way you dont need to touch your original chip, and with an ALDL interface (cheap and easy) you will be able to do realtime editing which will save a whole lot of plugging/unplugging and burning. Im sure he could load vs code on to it initially too which would mean you can get started without a chip programmer. Although, you'd need to be prepared to go back to the original chip if the nvram gets erased somehow. This shouldnt happen too easily, but can be done in a split second if you do something like unplug it from a powered ecm. If that happens then you'll need the programmer to get the data back in it.

Oh yeah...its daunting!!....thankyou for the advice and above all patience. ..unfortunately I do not have the zip utility to open the files but would like to be able to see what there is before going any further as yoda69 suggested....thanks heaps for the offer holden202 but I am not confident enough to mess with the original chip...I hate to think what I would do to that unsuspecting ecotec...thanks also antus..sounds like a good way to go if I can make sense of the bin files...I have to take this slowly unfortunately..I am not at all confident...first things first..zip utilty for those files...cheers..

If you can't stand the nags of winzip/winrar you could try 7Zip, it is completely free and has good compression capabilities
