I would try the cable on another machine and if it fails to recognize I would assume the cable is bad.

we at least need to start verifying things independently.
1: try the cable on another car, go find a mates commodore or something and try to connect to it with the flashtool.
2: depending on the results of the above, try the cable on another laptop
3: verify obd2 plug pinout. for that interface to work, you need pin 4/5 of the obd2 plug to ground, and pin9 of the obd2 plug should go to ECM pin A8, the rest of the wires dont matter (for connecting with laptop) double check those connections.

Hi Jayme have tried the A8 pin out there's nothing there does not have any voltage the 12p pin out uses A9 and it has 4.95 volt and flashes code Haven't had a chance to try another car yet. Will try another laptop tomorrow
The fact that the nv is flashing code and running the car sort of indicates it is still alive ? May be not well but still there
My obd is wired pin 5 ground pin 9 diagnostic enable and pin 16 12 volt . What is the 12 volt supply for l put it in because Antes suggested it

Pin9 is data from a8 for the cable to read from not diagnostic enable .diagnostic enable goes to pin 6 of obd plug.follow jaymes wiring details for the earths and pin 9 to a8 should make it work

Sorry but pin A8 in the ecm is dead 12p wire pin out has it blank there s no voltage on A8 A9 in the ecm is live and has 4.95 volts of the 5volts required it flashes code A8dose nothing dose 4/5 mean 4 or 5 ? I have wired both ecm and obd to the pin outs in 12p zip and the getting started guide. I'm confused.

Hi,
sorry, I meant 4 and 5 are both earth, I normally just join them together. pin 9 will definitely go to A8.
that pin is missing from the 12P wiring diagram as it is a 1227808 based diagram and the 808 is missing the ALDL chip from the mainboard, so we normally add comms to the 808 with a special 808 comms board sold on this site. when using 12P with the 1227165 or the commodore VR onwards manual ECM, A8 is the ALDL wire. you can verify this if you google for "1227165 pinout" they all show A8 as the ALDL data wire or "serial data".
