Thanks charlay86..I think I have 45 days before the current douwload apparently stops working...just requested permission to use delcowizzids bin defs in Tunerpro and once that is received I'll get further into it...at the moment..I have a printout of a Toyota EFI technician training guide and overview of a GM engine tuning guide to work through...combining the advice members have kindly provided with other info, a clearer picture of EFI tuning is forming...albeit slowly...but it is clearly evident that just wanting an engine to run as efficiently as possible is vague at best and what I really need to be doing is finding out what I have (memcal code base)...what the car actually does (datalogging) and what can improved on (if anything really)..the advice I have received from members is fantastic and has shown up many shortcomings with other info I have received over time.....Thankyou!!....cheers for now...Shayne.

Thankyou Delcowizzid for permission to use the bin defs....sorry about the return PM's...I think you get the idea I am very grateful!!!...
Thanks also to Dec_head and Yoda69.....the winzip utility worked a charm and I have downloaded the $5i XDF and bin defs...these were loaded into Tunerpro and so far so good....not sure of all the tables and info but it is a terrific start!!...Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.....being a newbie, I didn't want to use the resouces without permission..just seems wrong..but thankyou..I am currently looking at the bin CKUL Delcowizzid) as suggested by yoda69 and Holden202's XDF VS file...lot of variables involved??..but comparing the data to Dec_heads post it is making more sense...sorry about the PM's...new to them and not sure if my responses have gone through (still showing in out box)..if dozens suddenly come through.

Depends on what you want to do with the tune mamba mine is more complex because of a change of pistons cam manifold etc.
Yours from my understanding the engine is standard .
So it should be pretty straight forward if you look around i am pretty sure someone has uploaded a power chip vt tune somewhere on this site it might pay to look at the differences between that and a stock vt tune wich should be similar to the vs and give you an idea of timing and fuel changes.
Also if it is auto changing shift points can help and well worth looking into take note of where it shifts now and where you would like it to shift that can all be altered in the tune to suit .

just be careful comparing VS and VT tunes, i've been talking to greenfoam in the past and it appears there is ALOT of difference in the timing between the two of them, vs has heaps less timing than the vt and from my experience theres not much more you can add for 91 octane fuel before it starts knocking .... we haven't really been able to work too much out, the only GUESS i've had is that the VT has the EGR on it and maybe that is allowing more timing but other than that we can't see any reason for so much difference.
if your playing with CKUL tune i can give you my current tune if you wanted to use that to compare what i've done to the tranny compared to stock. i've roughly made it so it drives fairly normally in economy mode just slightly quicker shifts but then in power mode its alot harder shifts and also holds gears a bit longer etc ..... let me know anyways, im not sure if i've posted the bin up but i would be happy to if your interested in comparing it.

Not the first time I've heard about the difference between the VS and VT tunes..other forums just as puzzled by differences..no idea myself..only heard that some people mistakingly thought that by using a VT memcal in the ECU it would go faster,better.....think they took the pistons home in a bucket!! amongst other parts....I would be great to see your updated file....at this stage, the stock memcal is staying in the car as I am far from confident to alter anything
..know what you mean about the shift changes...mine changes up fairly quickly so overtaking can be fun....the current shift changes you have on the XDF look good though, how does the car drive??..didn't know Greenfoam had anything to do with ecotec..thought he stuck with the V8's...interesting to have his take on things though...you maybe right with the inclusion of EGR on the VT, this would only affect things in the mid range though, hot engine required I think...have no idea really....now theres a surprise LOL....

Just researched the EGR and came across this snippet.."Although EGR does measurably slow combustion, this can largely be compensated for by advancing spark timing. The impact of EGR on engine efficiency largely depends on the specific engine design, and sometimes leads to a compromise between efficiency and NOx emissions."...meaning that to overcome the effect of pumping exhaust gas back into the chamber, even at higher temps, advancing the spark timing is still required and higher octanes of of little benefit....I think your hypothesis is correct!!....

I've noticed similar things even with the VT/VX/VY tunes, that the spark can be very different from modle to model.
There are so many tables that affect spark it is hard to pin it down as to exactly what /where the final spark value is coming from.
For a start there are the following:
Main Spark
EGR Spark adder
Lean Cruise adder
Power Enrichment adder/subtracter
Time in PE
Inlet air temperature
etc. etc........
The mind boggles trying to figure it all out.
When playing with my VT I had a look at one of the aftermarket chips, it had no fuelling changes, a couple of degrres spark up top and earlier kickdown of the tranny.
Did not like running on 91 RON at all. Based on Holden202's findings with his and what I have read elsewhere, there is not much in outright power to be picked up, but the low/midrange throttle response can be improved.
