Circuit Help Required.

Post by Vpgts076 »

Hi Guys,

I am putting a LSx into a VL and am just trying to get the tacho operational.

I have managed to put Tacho into 4 Cylinder mode which is correct for a LSx however the VL utilises a coil signal and am trying to convert to a ECU signal.

It utilises a SAK-215 Chip and uses two 33K resister on signal.

Any help would be great.

SORRY ABOUT THE POOR CIRCUIT DIAGRAM. I AM LITTLE OVER MY HEAD..... :)

thanks Daniel

I will be watching this thread, as I have the same issues with a 4WD hilux with V6 ecotec conversion. The tacho is expecting a single coil signal where as the ecotec is obviously different with its 3 coils on the dfi unit.

Cheers

Try the circuit in the FAQ under "Q. Will a traditional coil signal reading tacho work with a coilpack? Can I make it work?". The FAQ link is near the top right. It links you to where a simple circuit has been discussed here http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic. ... 551#p21551

VL400 notes that it didnt work above 4k rpm on his VL tach, but you can probably experiment to increase the output a little further (bigger relay?) or you might find that your tach is within tollerance.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

For either 5V or 12V ECU signals without flyback, you should be OK to replace the two 33k resistors with 2k2 (2.2k) types. In the unlikely event it only works at low revs, you can reduce the two MKT1822 noise filter capacitors, I presume they are currently 0u22 (0.22uF) types.
