Rough Idle with $12P and 440cc injectors

Post by jimmy_mtx »

Hi everyone. Ive been reading and researching this website for 12months or so and found theres some great information here, so thank you all!

I'm stuck with upgrading 440cc injectors. Its a 1992 VP Commodore V6 AUTO with a turbo :turbo: bolted on the side. (still using the 1bar standard MAP sensor for now)

I've had my car running smoothly on a OSE $12P V112 APNX V6 with a '808 ECU and standard 19lbs injectors. Problem is when i upgraded the injectors the car runs rich and blows smoke, even after adjusting the:

Displacemt/inj flow rate (litres/Grams per sec) - using the Kinjfow calculator
Crank - first and second stage BPW's
And, IAC settings.

After reading through the forums and basic/advanced tuning of Delco '808 manuals I'm still stuck.

If anybody has this problem or knows what it could be please let me know, Thanks in advance. :D

If this is already posted elsewhere delete this....

Cheers,
Dylan

Look at the battery bias table needs to match the specs of the injectors specs

Also do get yourself a 2 bar map, its well worth it. You wont be able to tune boost without it as the computer cant see the boost. 100kpa column fuelling and timing as soon as boost comes on regardless of kpa is far from optimal and risky.

what setting did you come up with for the injector displacement ?

Thanks for the fast reply guys, went for test drive 2 hours ago. My car stalled going down a hill under no throttle and couldn't start her up again. Parked on side of road and asked a nearby farmer for jump start, couldn't get it running so now its locked up on his property. Got a lift back home. :|

I offset the battery bias tables by dividing the old values by 2.2. (42lbs/19lbs = 2.2) not sure if this's correct? Checked the impedance of new against old ones and only 0.5ohm difference.

Yeh i have a 2bar MAP but not installed yet. Was thinking to change one part at a time by not tuning boost yet, should have done Map sensor too looking back.

as for injector displacement I used 60lbs injectors in Kinjflow calculator which gave me 0.042. Changed from 42lbs = 0.060 which blew black smoke and soot from exhaust

Hope Melbourne cup is going well, Been a fun day haha

I dare say its flooded and / or fouled plugs .....

if .060 is too rich and blowing black smoke try changing the injector displacement to .055 or .050 ......

as for the battery offset table, you can't change it like you did, you need to know the correct data for the injector you are running otherwise your shooting in the dark, but also what you've changed it to is probably way more wrong than the original V6 figures.

Post up the brand and part number for your injectors, I'm sure someone will have info for them.

as for getting the car going, i'd take a wire brush and some throttle body cleaner with you, rip out the plugs, spray them, then brush them then spray to clean off the grit and try them again and change the injector flow to .055 or something like that.

also if you haven't already divided the cranking fuel tables by 2.2 I would do that too.

be warned though, I wouldn't be driving this thing on boost at all without getting the map sensor sorted and also getting a wideband in it!

changing the injector rate to .055 might get you home but it might also make it lean on high rpm or high load areas and that's only going to end in tears!

I think so too, would have pumped in too much fuel during cranking. Just checked the tune, I've divided the cranking values by 2.2

The part number of injectors : 0 280 155 968. They are "green tops" but not genuine BOSCH. from ebay
Emailing the supplier to get the proper battery voltage offsets. Will post them up when he replies

Working tomorrow so my mate will go up, swap injectors back to original and run the old ecu. (i have 2) Just putting it back to standard specs to get her home. Will definitely do that when it's back and got time to work on it . Yep, defiantly need a wideband for it thats next on the list :) dont want her leaning out

Thanks for your help so far mate, need this sorted out

Not genuine is a worry.

Can be very hit and miss as to the quality, especially when used in a boosted application

Just seen the video. Scary stuff.

Found voltage compensation charts, heres how my injector bias vs battery voltage table looks now

Volts M/Sec
4.8v 3.89
6.4v 3.89
8.0v 2.11
9.6v 1.37
11.2v 1.08
12.8v 0.85
14.4v 0.66
16.0v 0.53
