Hey guys,
I'm a mechanic who spends a lot of time diagnosing faults from cars towed in by RACV.
I'm just after anyone's information/experiences/recommendations on some test gear I'm looking to get, so I can have my own equipment I can look after instead of the old abused stuff supplied.
I need a fuel pressure test gauge. The one we have at work does pressure and flow, but since most stuff is going returnless these days I don't really need the flow gauge, and can easily enough run the return line into a bucket with a stop watch if I ever really had to. The biggest problem with the one I currently use is lack of fittings, I recall spending half an hour rigging up hoses etc to measure the fuel pressure on something that had an almost tyre type valve on the rail (like an AC valve but smaller). With the correct fitting it would of taken seconds.
What is the quality of the kits on eBay like? They seem cheap but do they read accurate?
Compression tester.
Is there a kit that does petrol and diesel?
Timing light. We've been through a couple over several years because the carbon thing in the inductive pickup breaks. Maybe need to be more careful.
Is there a good tough one that can take the odd drop?
Any recommendations or what to avoid appreciated
Thanks in advance
Recommended test gauges
Re: Recommended test gauges
I have various timing lights, snap on for dyno, hella for general work, both are great but the hella is reliable. The snap on how ever will show total timing.
I use a blue point digital comp tester (10 years old) and an ebay diesel comp tester kit, don't know of a kit that does both.
We have a great fuel flow/pressure guage, can't remember what the brand is (carbon zap?) i'll check for sure in the morning. Has every fitting you can imagine, never been caught out.

According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...
