Re: Vlad's rides thread
You have to take some off the spline end of the axel as the centre is not deep enough?

VR/VS ones. Too long to fit the older housings.Holden202T wrote:umm why did you need the axles shortened ?
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
Both diffs I've had professionally rebuilt have had the axles shortened. Both re-used the original axles.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
not a problem on the kaaz, looking at the technical diagram it hollow all the way through, the cross piece in the middle is hollow. So I could probably got away with not shortening but I did it anyway. Only cost me $25 per axle to be trimmed on a massive lathe.vs ss wrote:You have to take some off the spline end of the axel as the centre is not deep enough?
That said I actually never checked my center if I could see through or not. I just knew it was going to work the way I was doing it and it did just fine.
For the VP S I have decided to go for a Torsen center. They make 2 types for the M75/M76 (not M78) one for 3.08 or less and one for 3.23 and higher.
Torsen are even better at directing torque to the correct wheels than Kaaz or true trac. Anyway the Torsen also is a straight through center and technically won't need any shortening if I use another set of NOS VR axles. I probably will as its only 85 buck each lol and they have the access holes balanced unlike any aftermarket offering.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
One was a Large Salibury with custom centre using BW internals (developed here in NZ for the old NZ Transam light series) and the other was a complete BW78 in my old VN that I had a standard (tightened) BW LSD fitted too.vlad01 wrote:immortality wrote:Both diffs I've had professionally rebuilt have had the axles shortened. Re: Vlad's rides thread
well sounds like it might have the traditional cross pinion and if thats the case then the length needs to be short enough not to bottom out on that.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
I thought a truetrac was a torsen diff? Or is it just the max split proportion is different?vlad01 wrote:not a problem on the kaaz, looking at the technical diagram it hollow all the way through, the cross piece in the middle is hollow.
