How do I identify that? So the knock board is part of the actual pcm board not the memcal itself? If that's the case then I will be using the hsv spec pcm to utilize the knock detection.

Knock filter is on the memcal. Lift the blue cover to make sure.

Oh ok well at a glance the hsv memcal has more to it under the cover so that would suggest it has the knock board and as I'm going to a nvram wouldn't that eliminate that side of it in any case? Or does that get plugged into the nvram plugin to still utilize the knock filter?

Yeah you can attach memcal to NVRAM setup to utilize the knock filter or can un-solder the knock filter & attach it direct to the NVRAM!

Hmmmmmm.... interesting
Does it slow the transfer rate leaving it as a plugin verses directly fitting it to the nvram?

I guess your talking about the speed of the chip/memcal/nvram? There rated at whatever speed chip is (like 120ns or similar)
I can't see it affecting that at all, but others here will know for sure.

no that's not an issue, its more weather you want to use the nvram on its own in that car all the time or not.

for example, I have an nvram that I use in multiple cars for tuning, I would then attach that cars original memcal to the side, so I then get the right netres settings and knock filter if fitted, and then once I'm done, I remove that memcal, erase it and burn the tune to it that I made on my nvram, fit it to the car and away they go with a stock memcal with updated tune ....

if you plan to leave the nvram in one car forever then you can probably put the knock filter onto it, but its not necessary and wont effect performance whichever way you do it.

Yeah my thinking was by putting an nvram in and then plugging the memcal into it may slow it down due to adding a extra set of chips into the processing pathway? I'm not very tech savvy so I'm probably not even close in my assumption haha

Also I should add that I'm only wanting to keep the knock filter purely for if I get a fuel issue down the track as a safely feature, not to rely on during tuning but saying that it's always good to be able to log knock when finding mbt threashold

the signals flying around the nvram will be fast enough either way, theres other components involved that are the slow down, so don't stress :)
