Its the main clock/crystal. The one that looks to be missing is a later PCM with a smaller component footprint.

Make sure its a V8 filter too, the V6 filter is common as it was in all models not just HSV but wont work on a V8. Cross reference here .. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=214&start=20#p13685
So the hsv memcal gives me two possible types, any clue to tell any difference or if there is anything different between the two? I can't see the code that is normally viewed through the left window on the memcal as it is covered with h a sticker from the shop for that tuned it which is just their logo. Only code I can see is the '1F1043' which I assume is the knock filter code??
yeah but if its not a stock tune then who knows whats been done, it may be that the tuner used that memcal as it was a HSV one and then tweaked it....
best bet would be to remove the tune from the memcal and see if it compared properly to anything else.
at a guess I would say the main difference other than the ve and spark tables would be injector size for the 5.7 .... so if your car has had different injectors that might be part of the change....
also does it have a knock sensor actually connected ? I had a mate bought a VS V8 with hsv memcal, it had the knock enabled in the tune and had the knock filter, but it didn't have the sensor connected, was a bucket of shit, and rightly so because the entire spark map was retarded 10 degrees!

That's is very true. If I was to hazard a guess I'd be assuming nothing has actually happened to the tune other then the 5.7 memcal has been put into the pcm and no actual tuning has taken place. But I can't confirm that until I get set up to pull the tune out of it with the laptop.
I haven't paid any real attention to the sensors yet as I haven't really spent any great amount of time on the car mechanically other then refitting dizy and manifold just to get it running as they weren't fitted to the car when I bought it

yeah it retards the timing 9 degrees or something like that if there is a knock sensor fault.
in the case of my mates car we didn't get to see the difference as he pretty much bought the car and pulled the motor out to rebuild it with work done, and I found out the tune was like that after he pulled the motor.

I can confirm how shit a the engine performs with retard active all the time. In my V6s I disable the knock retard function all together as the system is primitive and has a hard time telling mechanical noise (especially exhaust scavenging pulses when good extractors are fitted) from real knock. My old VP v6 used to take 10.5 sec to 100 with T5 and once I found it was really retarding falsely I got it to 7 sec flat once disabled.
It really made that much difference!
