They are cheap as these days. Even if I had the materials and parts, I could not be fucked and would just buy one anyway.

I paid something like 400? for mine and it was a higher end brand not a SCA one or some complete junk. Mine was total tools best model. 20 ton which makes light work.

I just did my axles the other day and I couldn't believe how easy the bearings and collars went on. Last time I went to my local mechanic shop and used his one and fought for a while trying to get the collars to press. Felt like it was not going to move but its probably a flogged out shit press.

yeah i hear you both.
i had the shit lying around so just put it together.
the supercrap one is normally 3 hunj was on sale lately for 1 fiddy. its 12T
i couldnt believe how easily the BJ popped out and the main bush (not the caster rod bush) - i spent hours trying to get them out the last time, these just popped out. so easy.
finding the right pipe so i could make the 'tools' was a little interesting but as i tend to hoard steel, it was just a case of finding it and grinding it :)

I couldn't build it for the price to buy it unfortuntely. I'll pick up a new 20ton unit locally for about NZ$300. Should have it this week so I can do my diff bearings and decide what I need to machine up at work this week before I'm on holiday after xmas.

Be good to be able to do it at home cause the new engineering boss at work isn't the nicest bloke so this type of activity needs to be kept to evening shifts only :(

Ah yeah I do remember seeing the different balljoints

What is actually different does anyone know?

VS and early VT use a straight shank on the ball joint that is held in the control arm by a through bolt that clamps the arm around the ball joint shank all the other (before and after the VS/VT) use a taper lock system where the ball joint shank is tapered and fits into a matching tapered hole in the control arm and is then secured at the top with a lock nut been either castellated with split pin(early design) or nyloc for newer ones.

The taper lock system is more secure but can be much more difficult to remove.

Tell me about it we used to have a 250 tonne press at work absolute monster until the retarded apprentice used it to press a gearbox countershaft apart that only required a little tiny hand hydraulic puller left a snap ring on and turned the entire setup into a shotgun with no barrel
