Re: Gregs Fleet
mate not getting enough done. back to work next week. so all this is over.
must say theres been a bit on.
i've got the thing sitting on the wheel now on the ground which is great, managed to get another decent shock dust boot so can happily assemble the other strut now YAY.
problem is i have to work in full sun at the moment which = burnie tannington. so waiting for it to go the other side of the house, meanwhile will game with the boy.
plus i baked a cake this morning as well while everyone was asleep.

Re: Gregs Fleet
and done.
one very low menacing looking VT we now have :

took it for a blat around the block to bed in the brakes. brakes could be better IMHO. pedal is a bit vague, but there and work just fine. need to get into the rears and bleed them up.

It's probably the one job I take the car to a workshop for. Costs a bit but they flush the whole tranny, converter, cooler etc and it comes back with totally clean fluidpsyolent wrote:well thats the auto fluid changed out on the VT track car. not a fun job on ramps. the old stuff was well ready to come out, pretty putrid. shifts alot better now, amazing the diff new fluid makes.
Yes, after a full flush service they do shift much nicer.

Re: Gregs Fleet
autos are totally not like a manual, in a manual the oil is mostly just there for lubrication and probably doesn't get that hot .... in an auto its like the blood, its what makes everything move and also lubricates!
when my VZ ute went out of warranty I stopped getting it dealer serviced and started doing it myself, when I looked back through the service book I couldn't find anything about trans oil changes, further investigation showed that they have no dipstick and are "sealed for life" from the factory and some rubbish along the lines of not ever needing to be serviced ...... what the actual fuck! ... this is the 5L40E btw ...
googling found info about removing the oil, then pulling a bung out the side of the case and filling it up till it dripped out, the putting it up on a hoist in gear with the wheels turning at idle and then continuing to top it up.....
certainly not designed to be done by the average home handy man!
I decided when I did mine i'd drain it, remove the pan, replace the filter and gasket and wipe the pan clean to at least give it half a chance! the ATS flush/service is certainly the best option.
needless to say the oil that came out of it after 120,000kms we far from red and fresh smelling!

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Gregs Fleet
thats it sammy, if you don't change the fluid, they die.
the fluid serves two purposes, both lubrication AND hydraulics
the fluid that came out of the VT was bordering on brown to be honest - didn't have that burnt stink finally, just wasn't good.
you know i think my kia was the same. i don't have it any more, but, there were zero options for draining or filling the fluid on the box.
built in obsolescence really, all done on purpose to keep the 'system' alive and well for people who dont want to think.

Re: Gregs Fleet
Unlike my auto fluid, was black as diesel sump oil and smelled like cigarette ash lol, there was smallish debris in it too, about sand sized. Will do an autopsy on it at some stage.
