Spongy feeling is air in the fluid. Most of the time if the booster is stuffed the pedal would be rock hard.
My guess is you still have air in the ABS junction.

EDIT: just saw your post about the VX, it appears later models just feel crappy.

Our VX feels fine, good pedal feel.... most of the time. But our old VS was the same, decent pedal most of the time but sometimes it just has/had more travel. I wouldn't ever call it "spongy" though.

TBH I wonder it has to do with the engine, normally they only pull about 20" Hg of vacuum under normal operating conditions however on a big overrun and sudden closure of the throttle you get a fair bit more (on our VX yesterday vac gauge was showing about 26" Hg of vacuum) which would make the brake booster work more effectively wouldn't it?

As for your issue, did you pull any air into the MC ? Make sure the MC is level (so don't have the front of the car jacked up) or you could really struggle to get the air out of it. Maybe let it settle over night and then do it again. When I do it with my boys I always tell em to let the pedal up slowly not simply release the pedal.

thanks MAGP for confirming that.
ah yes. the ABS junction. my ABS by the way is throwing an error so, is probably fucked and might be half the problem.
i had the boy pumping it, and, no air coming thru. there was in the first instance.

the vx pedal feels the same though, so, i'm not entirely fussed. the fluid that came out of it it mind you was black. not been bled, changed in about forever. need to get the thing out on the road and see how it feels, bit hard when it has no plates, will organise a permit.

so removed the ABS control module yesterday (pump is still there); sure enough its a 0273004219 standard VT issue ABS with no traction control Berlina povo spec. Getting a replacement one today and will chuck it in this evening.
Also took the liberty to remove the battery holder/bracket as that was rusty and replaced with a good one I got from PickAPart. which is vastly better.
Removed the cruise module as home boy who had the car previously had a fascination with self tappers, he had run self tappers into the bracket that holds the module in place for his fully hektik stezza 0 gauge wiring. Removed bracket from the base of the cruise module and welded up the holes on it and repainted it with Black Engine enamel. Now vastly improved.
Will also clean the myriad of $2 rattle can black paint sprayed on everything for that boy racer uber go fast look.
Ordered a new pair of rocket cover (lol) gaskets as the existing ones are leaking after I replaced the covers not so long ago.

Greg it appears you know a lot about boy racers and their fully sick and hektik mods. I would have looked at it and thought to myself this car was owned by a bogan but you put all the details together and come up with boy racer. You are a regular Sherlock Holmes. And yes I know way to much about bogans having had to deal with them at work

ok.

cue guido voice here for laffs.

thats sik moite. moit u dunno the halv of it rite. its got da fully hektik bro exhaust with dual tips hektik az rite, wid completerly fooooll flowing stok as zorst mate.
i cut sik one day an fullee painted the calipers brembo red ok, includes the rotors and lines and shields an any uddr shit in da ways, fuck dat. had some leftoverz paintz and spray da k frame too.
and got my hektik blu pacemaker color paint for da stok az free flowing cast exhaust mani's
must be at least 100kw xtra now bro.

/uncue guido voice

seriously i dunno what this tool was on. the calipers got painted red, including anything else in the way. the exhaust manifolds were painted pacemaker blue. the rocker covers were black i think. all non heat proof paint, so, all peeled off. the engine bay has been painted as well in matt black. including the airbox lid, and fucking everything else possible, master cylinder reservoir, the plenum cover, the wiper water reservoir.
the interior was painted, ie: plastics.
its almost as good as 2sexy (not sure if any of you are mighty car mods fans) - i've stripped most of it and binned all the painted shit and used thinner to clean alot of the paint off.
some people have no fucking clue.

oh. and rags stuffed in just about every nook and cranny and foam shoved everywhere (not expander foam) for some reason.

in accordance with wozza scorecard i think i won the whole internetz.
Cheers,
