Holden V6 VE reves went high with no throttle
Had a friend tell me of the story that she was driving a VE and took her foot off the throttle and the revs went up to 4000 and stayed there for some time. I scanned the car but nothing showed up. Any suggestions.

Re: Holden V6 VE reves went high with no throttle
I've seen problems with electronic throttle body, but never that symptom.
It may sound stupid, but check floor mats aren't possibly getting caught on the bottom of the pedal, can happen in particular with aftermarket mats or those not secured properly. Toyota had a massive recal years ago because of this issue.

It should have coded throttle correlation faults if it where an electro mechanical fault, yoda is onto it...
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

Thanks. I should have thought to check the simple things first. Will have a look at it and see.

Just called her and there are no mats etc in the area that could have caused to problem. Apparently she flattened the throttle and when she took her foot off the throttle returned but the revs stayed up around 4000 and it was only after braking that they came back down. The car only ever done it once.

cruise control?
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Very odd it didn't code.. I'd be looking at the throttle plate itself, possibly very gummed up, when she flattened it the plate may have pushed through the muck and couldn't return easily.Charlescrown wrote:Just called her and there are no mats etc in the area that could have caused to problem. I would definitely be looking at it yourself to make sure nothing could of got it stuck.
Clean the throttle body to be sure but even in the extreamly unlikely event it was so dirty it couldn't return that would throw a code.
If it's only done it once I would almost guarantee something got it stuck or she had her foot in the wrong position and didn't realise it. Maybe her heel was pushing it down even with her toes pulled back? Was she wearing shoes she normally doesn't or thongs/loose footwear?

I've had throttle cable come loose and get stuck and once a dicky cruise control unit applying throttle down hill, but that can't be the case here due to the technology used in the VE.
