Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
That looks kinda like what I did with my old VN, I went richer faster much like you have done there although I just left the cruise on 14.7 and let the O2 sensor do it's thing.

Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
I normally setup lean cruise using the dedicated function and lower the road speed, temp and delay after idle as I did in the VR, this is just another way of doing it and gets a bit better economy again, especially with old tired engines and useful for VN/VP as they have lower CR over the VR
Also I didn't go richer, this is the stock 12P map thats leaned out a little in fact. 12.8 instead of 12.5 and of course that area with 16s. I have tested on the dyno and there is power gains leaning it back as far as 13 on WOT but due to variation actual AFRs can dip to 13.2 where it starts to lightly knock on with spark on the limits and a hot engine. 12.8 gains power and has a good safety margin. I have tested other AFRs in different areas on the dyno before and the stock 12P maps is very much bang on apart for 12.5 areas.

Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
Here in NZ the VN/VP's didn't come with O2 sensors as we still had leaded fuel so our cars went like stink but used a bit of gas. I fitted the O2 to suit unleaded. Made good power and reasonable cruise fuel usage too. Best I ever got was 6.8l/100km which is fairly damn good for a VN in NZ.

yeah I got the same with my old vacationer. Highest I got was about 800-850Km out of a tank.

Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
LOL, I couldn't drive it nice that far to get that much from a tank of gas. Normally when I'm out on the open road it's hammer down and get where I'm going pronto....
All of this would be been in the days before this forum was around and I was working with Delco on tuning stuff. MY old VN only ever ran on $5D definition using early SV3800 as my base tune before 11p/12p we have now.

Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
I always hammered my cars, never had an issue with fuel usage. In fact I saw little difference driving lead foot vs granny, maybe at most 20% more usage for 300% extra performance. This is the benefit of a large displacement, low reeving torque monster with all the low friction mechanics and modern type EFI/ignition goodies that buick v6s are. That in combo with light weight and rather low CD achieves good results with performance to boot.
New cars have made a lot of progress in efficiency and power but its all thrown away with large bulky bodies with a lot of drag and all the extra weight to the point a lot of models have gone backwards from what we had in the 90s with fuel efficiency.

Should be interesting to see how it will change with Vlad's tune...probably do a few more things to get most out of it but nothing crazy.
Rarely spot anything older than this in week day peak hour traffic especially on m5 carpark/motorway
Don't really bother to thrash this as rear doesn't step out like previous cars lol

Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
I will now lol.
Not sure what economy gains you'll get as I found with engine wear it decreases a bit, but 600Km is the minimal I have seen with flogged engines. But you being in Sydney, good luck to that!
Speaking of which, in my company car which is a shitssan fuckalis (dualis) it gets way better economy in peak hour and city driving by a good 2L/100 vs highway, the brick that it is has so much drag it chews into the economy big time over anything more than 70km/h. On the highway with a strong head wind I have to keep it in 5th about half throttle to maintain 110, 6th gear it just dies and falls back to 80-90 flat to the floor lol. It uses about 10-11L/100 on average.

Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
Don't think it's original engine or t5...could have copped speed rebuild or swapped with low mileage engine.
Doesn't blow smoke or any blowby when take oil cap off...does weirdly spit oil onto chassis rail under booster after highway driving, might be sump gasket 'cos everything above it is clean.
T5 doesn't make any noises,it's bit bitchy to get reverse...can be tricky sometimes to go into 1st gear, maybe needs new plastic cup under shifter...still has clean g/box oil it came with instead of dextron 111 though.
Diff & tailshaft definitely the originals as freeplay getting excessive & diff will eventually need rebuild/bearings
Hard to say what economy will be it's usually stuck in peak hour traffic or short drives to shops etc....not had a free run on motorway since replacing iffy coil but seems better.

Re: Sluggish vp t5 v6
Saw an old article on ss inductions which said remove front bonnet seal.....still only tiny gap removing the rubber shouldn't have made much of a difference but seems I was wrong, wants to light up rear wheel earlier but notably nicer creeping at snail's pace in traffic.
Unfortunately rear end copped a tap from old wog who went around waiting car to clip the ute as I was reversing out...it's like a magnet for shit drivers lol
