greenhorn help

Post by wotwentwong »

gday there guys,

as you can see im only new to this forum and after reading topics for a while i am impressed with the topics and the indepth and informative answers.

so i was just wondering if i could possibly get some of that informative information?

heres the rundown:

i have a standard efi 5 litre and i have just bolted on a yella terra supercharger kit onto the ol girl and was running well until i went to take my standard injectors out to get them flow tested and broke the plastic flow end on one of the injectors   ( YES I KNOW) so after authorisation from the missus i decided to purchase a full set of new injectors, after sending emails to confirm from the seller if they were ok for my engine i was sent a set of BOSCH 30LB FUEL INJECTORS RED TOP HIGH IMPEDENCE and after CAREFULLY installing them i started her up and was running rich as.
after another mail from seller apparantly we got our wires crossed. hmmm anyway talking to a few friends with a bit more knowladge i was informed that i will have to re map the ecu, the only two i have here that i can find in newcastle, one of them told me to download the tuning program and the cord and give it to him and he will do it for me.. wtf? i have been directed to steer clear from both of these tuners.

i have been told my options are;
re mapping, but only by a person who knows how to do it properly.which i cant find in newcastle
install an after market ecu system $$$$
re install standard injectors because i was told that the injectors i have now wont offer me that much performance difference unless i increase my boost.

so i am about to consider getting a set of new standard injectors but before i do i thought i would throw my problem out here and see what was returned in advice on what to do
i use the ute for every day driving and love the sound and performance of the terra .
its not used for street racing i just want the ol girl to run well and to have the performance when i want

i would appreciate any knowladge and info you may be able to offer

cheers people and keep up the good work
.

geez theres some shit dribblers out there.

i can tell you now, the difference from the 30lb injectors is a fair bit considering the stock injectors are 19LB......

secondly, you should be able to get the car back to where it was with the stock injectors simply by adjusting the injector constant to suit the change of injectors.

now i have a feeling im the closest one to you and im happy to do this for you if you wish.....

no multi million dollar software or anything like that to sort the injector change

BUT by running the stock tune with a blower you are risking it being lean on boost, if so eventually you'll probably torch the motor if its bad enough.

firstly can you tell me what model the car is and hopefully also you can tell me what the code is on the memcal ?

from here we might be able to make some progress on getting these injectors working.

at the end of the day the stock computer should be able to run you engine with the mods you have, but you may need to get a few different parts and run a tune more specific to a blower .... unless the blower came with a chip you really need to get it tuned to get the most out of it.

thanks heaps mate , yes your right its so hard to make a choice on what to believe when your a bit of a novice, your info is invaluable
it is a vs ute,5ltr ,auto ,96 model
and the blower came with its own microtech MF-I and 2 seperate injectors mounted on top of the blower with the kit,it is all set up and running.as far as i can tell it cuts in at about 5psi but that will be checked when i get these injectors running and i get her tuned. the air/fuel mixture is set at 50% on the microfuelerso do you mean just hold off on purchasing the standard injectors and hang on to the 30lb injectors.
is the memcal the same as pcm?sorry if thats a stupid question.
the numers on the unit inside the passanger kick panel is;
service number 16176424
5LT AUT PCM
16240018 BWCV
they are the only numbers i can see on the outside of the unit so if they are not right please let me know and i will investigate it futher

ahh right, i'd say the two extra injectors are setup as you say to add the extra fuel when its on boost, easy way to get around needing to re-tune the motor.

in that case i'd say all you really need to do is get the tune adjusted to suit the 30lb injectors and it should be just about right

i'm guessing BWCV is the number on the memcal, you've found the PCM, on it there is a plate thats held on with two screws, if you remove them the memcal is under there and on the chip thats in it there should be a sticker with that BWCV number.

i can't actually find any info on the BWCV so if you can make sure thats what it is on the memcal that will help.

id say its either gonna be BWCW or BWCU both auto 5.0L. the only problem runnin a piggy back like that is that it doesnt remove timing under boost, so your timing at 100kpa must be suitable for your max boost, which then means it wont perform well at high load areas off boost, or it will ping on boost.
anyways as holden202 said, all you need is to get the injector rate changed and it wil drive exactly as it did with the old injectors. once the 2 bar auto $11 code gets released (it is under development by VL400) then you will be able to throw away the piggy back and run it heaps better on the delco PCM only :D depending how much boost you are runnin, the 30lb injectors should be able to handle the boost fuelling on their own. I assume somewhere round 8-10psi? ive tuned a stock 304 engine runnin 10 psi on 60lb injectors and it wasnt even gettin to 50% duty, so I reckon the 30's will run your boost fuellign on their own sweet.

speaking of taking out stock injectors, a few months ago, one of the caps fell down into my manifold when I took them out. my mate said - nar just leave it and start it up, itll just mash up and fall out the echaust, im like errrrrr no. I ended up using some tie wire and and a torch and 20 mins of patience and got the bugger out through the injector hole :D it snapped straight back on the injector and was perfect.

thanks jayme, so what you are saying is when 202 helps me out i can do away with the 2 seperate injectors on the blower and the microtech unit once it is running ? and i too dropped the small piecesof plastic down into the intake but the way i got mine out was to use my car vacume cleaner and stepped down my hose size until it went into my injector hole and sucked them all out,it worked a treat....

not really yet. VL400 is a ways away from having boost ready code for the auto PCM. hes got boost code going for the Manual ECM and it works a treat, got 2 boosted 304 running on it, but the Auto code could be months away. in the meantime when holden202 helps you out you can just run it exactly how you were running it before with the stock injectors.

once the boost code is released for auto, then you will be able to throw away the microtech.

I agree with Jayme "throw away the piggy back" and let the Delco do the job more accurately. I have tuned many supercharged 5L auto with service number 16176424 using a true 2 bar Delco program. I would suggest using the 36lb injectors if your going to run 10lb boost.

I really hate piggy back computers. Do it right with only the Delco.

yeah forgot to mention, there is already Auto boost code out there (eg: Kalmaker) but you have to pay thru the nose for it. VL400's code is free.
