LoL i have at least 20 dead ngk plugs laying around from rich mixtures especially on bikes i won't use them anymore.
Went bosch and have never had a problem since . same for champion very rarely see a dead one even old ones like 30 years old.
I can understand plug failure because of a lean mixture but failing from a rich mixture so easily it's a joke guess it is why they sell so many and auto shops love to stock them. anyway just my rant for the day .

Re: Wide band oxygen sensor
theres nothign plug manufacturers love more than a crap plug that wears out and dies forcing you to keep replacing it and secure their revenue stream. look up the Firestorm spark plug.

Interesting read ended up finding these http://www.brisksparkplugs.com.au/contact/sales.shtml might give them a go if they aren't overpriced.

Re: Wide band oxygen sensor
if your fouling shitloads of ngks maybe you using the incorrect heat range!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Wide band oxygen sensor
Ngk are just crap in rich conditions like i said never had the problems with bosch same heat range.
Even the blokes at the spare parts shops i know say the same they don't use them but quite happily sell them.

Re: Wide band oxygen sensor
are you sure the heat range in a bosch is the same as ngk ? quite possibly different scale of measuring it?
try a different heat range ngk and see if it improves the issue..... generally if the spark plug is the right heat range it will burn off all the crap that gets caked onto it, if its not getting hot enough to do that then you probably need a different heat range ..... you'll also find cold starting and fuel economy/emissions improve if you have the right one in there.
i'm not saying this is your issue just part of what i've learnt about tuning from spark plug colours ..... it could also just be that the engine is too rich and can't handle it, in which case theres nothing wrong with the spark plug other than it is more seceptible to a dodgy tune.
i've always prefered ngk's over other brands because they've never let me down but thats not to say others arn't better and i definately know in the case of my gemini the petrol ngks are not perfect for methanol but thats all part of the heat range thing

tuning of supercharged and turbocharged engines to reach maximum performance. They are designed to function correctly at cylinder pressures of up to 250kPa. This is a performance product.
The above statement is from the brisk spark plug product description page.If they only work up to this cylinder presure then they would be useless, either that or they dont know what there talking about.LOL

Re: Wide band oxygen sensor
Yeah it isn't in just one engine i have had ngk plugs fail and mainly on motorbikes before tuning but replacing them with a bosch equivalent it has never happened to me.
I don't doubt they are ok when the engine is tuned correctly.
I just can't believe how easily they fail when an engine has been flooded or overly rich wich is why i won't touch them.
It isn't the whole lot failing in one go but one or two sometimes more in a few v8 commodores where people put in blue tops on a stock tune
Or bigger cams it has killed them.
Even on my engine at first when the tune was out of whack it killed ngk's i mistakingly went and bought ngk's again and it killed them pretty quick i then put bosch in it eliminated that problem and they are still in no problems same heat range just that they don't fail rich like the ngk shit .
