Ok what i am trying to do is copy the k's from one level 3 digital vr vs dash cluster to another.
So far i had a non working cluster for a test dummy so i have done some research and correct me if i am wrong or mislead.
I found ic 104 marked x24c44p i had a bit of a play and can't find the right settings or info on reading and writing the chip
here is the data sheet info http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/547401 ... 4c44p.html
I have a few other clusters i can mess with but don't want to destroy them if i don't have to any info or corrections would be great.

as long as you dont alter anything it should work, as i have said there is some form of checksum in them i havent been able to find.
its easy to change if you have the right tool...lol

Re: Odometer reset Trial will this work
Yeah i am guessing the tool is worth a bit lol
Any idea what settings i would use on my willem gq4x to copy the chip i can't find it anywhere.
I socketed the cluster but i think i may have stuffed one chip as it says 55555555 ks now don't what it was originally it came from a cluster that didn't power up.
Can't find the right settings tried a few i get all ffffff.s or ....... etc.

Re: Odometer reset Trial will this work
all the 5's indicate an error yes, do you have/want some bin files to look at?
the programmer needs to support I2C serial EEPROM's
pm me & ill send a couple of bin files i have
the tool is about $5k...lol

Re: Odometer reset Trial will this work
Ok i swapped that chip from another cluster into the socketed one and it worked k's changed
Heres what i read out was 132k on the clock very little code can anyone make sense of it.
The software support for doing the copying on the gq4x is in development i am the test dummy.

Your read looks a little strange to me. I was playing with this a few years ago, and the details in my head are a bit sketchy, I think it was the VN cluster I was playing with, It sounds similar though. I was getting stuff like this of the chip.
I figured out that it was stored as 4 bit nibbles, LSB first, with multiple checksums.
Code: Select all

Re: Odometer reset Trial will this work
Yeah i have no idea but i read about 4 chips and the first two characters seem to be the only difference.
But writing appears to be the problem nothing changes i think from my understanding the chip has a store data sector as well as a ram area and specific instruction sets to write the stored data etc.

Its NVRAM using RAM and EEPROM. When you are using the programmer to read/write its showing/writing the contents of the RAM, the interface is normal SPI so should be easy for that to work. On power up it automatically transfers the EEPROM data to the RAM and after a write you use the /STORE pin to transfer the data to EEPROM. The /RECALL pin can be used at anytime to restore the RAM contents using the EEPROM data.
From the data sheet...
STORE
STORE LOW will initiate an internal transfer of data
from RAM to the EEPROM array.
RECALL
RECALL LOW will initiate an internal transfer of data
from EEPROM to the RAM array.
Your read does not seem right though, there will be far more than just two bytes being used - something like what antus posted would be more like what you would expect to see.

Re: Odometer reset Trial will this work
With the info you have antus was that pulled directly from the chip in question?
i have some reads thanks to bob wich are 256k but what i don't understand is if its a 256 ram but what size is the eeprom all i need is to copy the stored eeprom data from one to another isn't it ?
surely that wouldn't be that complexed ?
yet over my head lol

Re: Odometer reset Trial will this work
It has 256 bits of RAM and 256 bits of EEPROM. The RAM is volotile the EEPROM is not, when your reading and writing its using the RAM so once power is lost so is your data. The EEPROM is used to store a 'backup' for when power is not applied, but you must store this manually. When power is restored the chip automatically transfers from the EEPROM to RAM without you doing anything.
What you need to do is write the data using SPI (so it populates the RAM) then strobe the /STORE pin to load the RAM data into EEPROM. Dont know if the willem can do all of this on its own or if you will need control the /STORE pin manually.
