Like you, I've only been in and out of the shed a few times. I've done a few laps around the block. It's a fresh motor so I've only revved to 5'ish a few times. Feels OK to me. Just don't like the idea of something spinning to 13,000 rpm in there. The guy at the balancing shop said something about needing a slight alteration to the balance. I didn't get it done, I probably should have. I'll probably set the rev limit around 6,200, which I believe is modest. I know little about Commodores at this stage, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the Formula Holdens were red lined at 7,000, but blew up regularly.
You did block of the oil supply to the rear balance shaft bearing I hope. Buicks are splash fed, Ecotecs pressure fed.

Which pistons? did you check your deck heights? they tend to be way off - mine are here. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... 9&start=10 how much lift does your cam have?
Build it, Race it, Break/Bend it ; Repeat.

i haven't touched any oil feed to the rear, but its a vr motor so shouldn't be pressure fed!

one of my engine builder mates reckons you only need to slightly increase the idle rpm to fix then after removing balance shaft, but in your case thats not even an issue :D
