History shows this is their normal mode of operation. They are greedy without scruples.Tre-Cool wrote:nice way to force a hardware upgrade...
When the backwards incompatible MPVI2 (v4.0 software) came out, I got banned (and deleted) from their site for warning people about allowing their MPVI1 to connect home because sooner or later it will be disabled.
There is no reason for acts such as these except pure GREED!

I was playing around with a particular ecu with the completely wrong file on it once not compatible like really wrong file, and found a way to crash the firmware on the cable, had to use a different PC and then i loaded it again with 2.24, away happy, i did this a few times!!. i don't have said ecu anymore can point you in the direction of what i did if you wont to try and revive your cable.

As a conciliation prize for those that have run into issues or had their V1 locked out there is a bright side, at least for the moment.
The current version of their software(current as of last week) for the V2 has a HUGE bug, the type of thing people get fired over
Hook up an unlicensed P01 or P59 on a bench harness and setup the software to do a full flash with a licensed file.....now turning it off and then turning it back on (the bench harness)
As soon as you turn it back on(the bench harness) start the flash, you have a 1-2 second window after you turn the Pcm back on to start the flash
Enjoy your newly licensed pcm
The file you flashed that was licensed will be written onto the pcm and all the licensing details of the file you used will also be written into the PCM
You can now flash this Pcm using normal methods.
This method also works on the E38, T42 and E67...possibly others as well. The primary difference is only modules 1-6 are written during the flash meaning the licensing details are not transferred into the PCM the same as on the P01/P59.

Re: WARNING HP Tuners MPV1 DEAD
or you could just get a hold of the hacked versions of hpt that have the licensing bypassed entirely...
