Alfa Romeo EFI conversion

Post by BradGTV »

hi guys.
i only recently came across this forum. and it has been a great help to get me going on my project!
my car is a 1979 alfa romeo gtv. it currently has its standard 2ltr dohc 4cyl in it with twin dellortos.
iam in the process of converting it to run efi using the delco 808 ecu and camira harness.
and i though i would document my conversion and get some help along the way.
the ports on the camira inlet manifold line up with the ports on the alfa engine so i have adapted it to bolt onto the engine. i will be using a bosch electronic dizzy set up to for the delco system. and using the standard camira harness (modified to suit my engine) along with the coil pack and ingition module.
i have a few q's..
do commodore 5ltr v8 injectors work with the 808?
will the bosch dizzy (set up as descirbed in "202" conversion thread) be able to have timming controlled by the ecu?
is it recommended to use a 3 wire o2 sensor?
hopefully some of you guys can awnser my question and give some feedback.

cheers,
Brad

v8 injectors are the same as v6 ones and will work fine 355 stroker ones are bigger than the 5.0 ones. dizzy mods as per holden 202's thread are correct lock advance weights so they cant move .some thought while doing it may be benificial you want to make sure the rotor and cap will line up well when you have max advance so think before just welding the advance .o2 sensors i allways run 4 wire heated ones they allways stay hot makes life easy
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

thanks for the help.

im considering going to dfi,
and using the 1927a module,
i know were i can get a lada niva crank trigger from,
the only things i am consered about are:
what can i use for a crank sensor, i have heard of an abs sensor of a commodore?
how are the coil packs wiried into the 808?
can i use commodore coil packs with the 4cyl module?
the module has 3 plugs, were can i source these plugs? are the ones of commodre the same?
cheers, brad

ok, so i bought a lada niva crank trigger wheel and a d1927a ignition module.
iam now looking for a crank sensor to work with the lada wheel and ignition module...
does anyone know what i can use?
which, if any american (cavalier, s10 ect..) use a equivalent crank sensor to the lada?
or does anyone have the lada crank sensor part number?
cheers, brad

ive been looking for injectors for the engine,
i have a set of 4 bosch saab turbo injectors that flow 23lb.
for my engine i need about 30lb,
sr20det injectors flow 32lb and knowing a few people i can get theses fairly cheap.
what im wondering is can the delco fire the sr20det injecetors? i would need to convert the harness to have the sr20det plugs but will the delco fire them?
cheers, brad

I think they are high impedance so should be ok - chuck a multimeter over them to confirm though, should see around 12-16 ohms or so.

Here is some info on them .. http://www.sr20tuning.com/injectors.html

Unless they are dirt cheap I would be going top feed as the fuel rail hardware is simpler.

yeah i measured them on my sr20. they are delco compatible (high impedance)

thanks for the help guys
iam currently looking into making an sr20 inlet plenum/manifold fit up to alfa head, i have done it with a camira inlet manifold as the ports line up almost exactly but the camira is round port were the sr20 is oval (16v) but with some porting of the alfa manifold should be able to get it to fit, but iam yet to measure the port spacings on a sr20de inlet manifold/pleum so dont know for sure. in my view the sr20 manifold looks better than the camira one and will have the fuel rail and injector bosses to suit the sr20det injectors so a win-win situation 8-)

You from SA?

You need a Alfa Guiletta Distributor, with the counter weights locked out. This drives a Camira HEI module strait up.

Use a JE inlet manifold, it lines up roughly with the carb style (not FI spider or EFI spider) intake. Get it tigg'd on

Have fun! :)

(Delco's Alfa Boxer)
...when in doubt, simply throw more electronics at it!
