Ok guys, thinking out loud here trying to work out the best solution.
So while im in the process of moving the battery to the boot and re-running all the fuel lines with braided stuff etc i thought maybe im better off changing the fuel system to have the surge tank in the engine bay as apparently if you go fast enough the g forces push the fuel backwards in the car and effectively limit you fuel pump capacity etc....
Sooo .... this is my current setup:

the thinking is to make a surge tank in the engine bay that fits in the battery area and has an angle on it going back to where the fuel pmup connects as this will also direct fuel towards the fuel pickup aswell as funnel it in on acceleration .....

so this is all fine and dandy, but then i had a thought, with the surge being in the bay and the return going back into it etc will there be too much fuel heating occuring, keeping in mind the lift pump should be able to circulate fuel and i can make a heat shield to somewhat lessen the effects.
so i was talking to a mate and he suggested this option and reckons it would be better for returning excess fuel to the tank without having the issue of the fuel staying in the engine bay and getting heated more.

so this method means more than likely if there is a low level in the surge tank the engine return will go into it then once its full it will go back to the boot tank, thus meaning there should be no issues of the surge getting too low but also allowing return to tank fuel to be cooled and circulated around the whole system.
i also have a holley black lift pump which currently have 4psi rating but i can change the spring in it to put 14psi into the system if i need to move fuel more, but currently the return to the tank is like a hose anyways so i figure theres plenty there.
what i'm wanting to know, does anyone have any other reasons for or against either option or another option all together ?
