i think i am loosing coolant but at a very slow rate... i dont have any white smoke out of the exhaust or any white residue in oil changes or anything but i do always seem to be low on coolant- i just never thought it would actually be going into the cylinders because that would mean a head gasket which i assumed would have much worse implications.. must be a tiny section not sealing well or slightly cracked??? but its been like that for a while surely it would have let go by now.. strange. i guess changing plugs and swapping o2 around would help nail the issue

coolant burning is a good thought, in my experience ecotecs are known for cracking the head between the valve seats and slowly loose coolant.
hopefully this is not the case but keep it in mind!

Is there any signs of oily residue/emulsification in the coolant?

shit! hope not it does have about 230k on the clock...

nah thats the thing I always service it myself and theres never oil in the coolant or vice versa- just flushed cooling system recently it does lose a fair bit of oil though but I just put that down to being an old motor that drinks a bit of oil lol

230k is not old at all if looked after, mines 300k and uses no oil. Intake manifold gaskets good? No oil in coolant?

could i check intake manifold gasket condition without pulling the manifold off? just the old tb/carby cleaner spray? there is a hissing noise heard from the engine bay so maybe not.. lol
but ye no oil in coolant..

only way of possibly knowing is pressure test.

pressure test on the intake manifold or cylinders? can you how do u pressure test the manifold/plenum (equipment?)- id imagine its easier to just pull it off and replace gaskets?

pressure test the coolant system

ive found most emotechs run rich on one side its the inlet plenum design as soon as you swap the TB to the other side of the plenum the opposite side goes richer
