Antus can chime in re site costs but i know hosting these days isn't as expensive as it used to be, id be happy as we all are to put in some coin for it, i think the biggest thing is time, which we all lack, getting new stuff out and organizing the site better.

I've been a member of other communities where you could donate and which I did contribute.
Nobody had a problem and all of the regulars did.

its nice to see so many people that aren't just here to take take take, theres far too much of that in the world these days

agree with the others, its really up to Antus, I have certainly gotten my share of information and joy from the forum to repay the information I have put into it, and like said above, most of us do it for the love of the hobby rather than money, because we are all here to make the DIY community fairer for the average Joe!

Thanks for the offers of support. But having said that the site is really quite cheap to keep open. I do linux for a day job and its quite an efficient operating system so we run just fine on a small vps slice with 768mb ram, 20gb total storage and sharing that across 4 sites. I wouldnt feel comfortable taking donations without then redistributing that to the sites biggest contributors, and i'd hate for that to go down badly and someone to think they didnt get a fair deal. If other sites have higher running costs or feel the need for donations thats fine for them, but we really just need contributors. If anyone thinks they can write up a better or different guide, create a video tutorial or the like please do so and contribute it back. Even things like maintenance of the faq would help. Currently the info there is not well organised and could be grouped logically and probably more added in. If anyone wants to help there they can cut n paste the whole thing in to a word processor, fix it up and send it back to me for includion on the site. That sort of stuff would provide the most benefit for the community and that makes me happy

I would donate if that was an option and will make a video or 3 once I get my wideband installed and get my head around this awesome-ness!

What if the funds go towards an R&D project or to buy you guys a 6 pack of beers, some new equipment or even a charity maybe? Good feeling giving money to a charity on behalf of all you guys efforts over the years....

Antus, the first half of what you wrote makes no sense at all to me, and im sure im not alone, I have NFI what 'linux' or 'vps slice' is You and many others on here posses skills and knowledge that us mear mortals have to nut out ourselves. Imagine trying to teach yourself quantum physics, thats what i compare this stuff to...

The point im trying to make here is how can one contribute when they are just a learner? I dont know how to or have any experience in web site maintainence, you can see how often im on here, wouldn't be a drama if i knew how.

Soooo.... Clearly im not alone with wanting to contribute in some way to our community, i dont have knowledge, but i do have money.

How about thinking outside the square, what if you used a donation button to raise money for a charity.... Or as mentioned above a developement project, like a sponsorship... There are many ways that a 'financial contribution' could be used to help the broarder community, who says that it needs to just be spent on you guys?

Heres an idea, how about we raise money and sponsor an SAE team? We could gain knowledge from them?

Look, at the end of the day, it would help a lot of us feel a lot less guilty about using all the knowledge, support and information that is available to anyone - for free...

I noticed a while back antus started on an LS read write tool.
I'd be mad keen for an LS "Package" as in 12P style.
Fully defined XDF and an ADX with wideband logging and a BIN with modified code.
Id be interested in contributing and even testing if it helped. Looks like the Delco is pretty well supported now.
Maybe even sell some PCM Hacking branded cables to go with the LS1 package?

Dylan, that is mostly available now. You can buy an avt-852 cable direct from avt hq - get the revision with analog (wideband) inputs and use jaymes adx. For flashing use dimented24x7's flash tool. For boost, stick with MAF. For xdf use dimented's xdf for 2001/2002 OS which we also used here. If you wanted the 2003/2004 os then we could help you make the xdf. We could also help you develop jaymes adx further with more pids if you need them.
