Just curious, how many amps does the fan draw.
I have the same fan set-up on my V8 but I have the lo-speed timed to come on 5 sec. before the hi-speed.
I've heard they pull some current, but I have no problems doing it this way

I didn’t know there was a low speed for the fan? How have you wired that in?
I draws some serious amps. It will blow a 30amp fuse when kicking on.
I’m really keen to hear how you have done yours????? I’m all for a better setup that’s for sure.

I think we are slowly getting to the problem cause.
When you switch the A/C on, the engine takes it's 1st hit. When the fans come on, you can kiss it. That's a major reason your idle goes crazy.
Also, can you fill me in on the tune in the memcal, does it suit the set-up. The Crane 276 looks bigger than anything Holden would have used.
Sorry to say, but the way I have my fan set up is with TunerPro and Flashtool. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Mine is the big single BF fan. It shifts a serious amount of air but has a serious amount of draw. I’m still wondering if there is some some of capacitor or resistor that only allows half the fan speed initially??

The tune in the memcal when I bought it is factory nos VL Group A. I bought it from a Holden Dealership in Oz some time ago. The reason I went with the 276 is crane states it as their Group A replacement cam. As far as I am aware the specs are very similar to the factory Group A.

Below is a extract from Bertie Street

From what I can see there are two separate windings in the coil.
Yes, there is a large resistor also. Is your's a Chinese knock-off, as there are millions around.
Can't beat the original. I would make sure the wiring is up to the task :study:
Might send a pic?

Mine is a genuine Ford fan. I bought it from a wreck. I’m not running the resistor. I’ve since changed to the plug-in style temp probe that Davies Craig do.
The main power feed is directly of the back of the alternator and earthed to the block.

That fan set-up is not ideal. You are turning a hi cfm fan just to cool the condenser? Or do you have the smaller front mounted fan for the A/C.

Oh no. I have the factory V8 condenser fan in the front. All the a/c is brand new apart from the fan.

With the camshaft, 2 degrees less in lobe separation is fairly significant in terms of vacuum and hence idle quality.
However, the situation is not that bad if the memcal suits. Stick that 3mm orifice in there and let's see what gives.
