Re: VN Production Saloon
Long overdue update, found some ACL race series bearings, finished off the valve job and got the heads on, got some .060" gasket material and cut myself some intake gaskets ( saved having to machine the intake face on the head or manifold after having .035" taken off the decks ) dummied up the intake and marked it to match my ports, took it off again and ported it to suit taking into account the angles relative to the gasket face, dialed in the stock (boohoo the budget dried up ) adjusted the lifter preloads, ported the stock exhaust "headers" (rules, would love a set of SV3800 jobbies ) and did all the usual bits and bobs. Dropped it in the hole and stuck the T5 behind it to find the auto starter did'nt bloody fit even after modding the bellhousing to suit, pulled the gearsack back out and discovered it was hitting the step on the flywheel so got that machined off- good place to lose a bit of weight , got her going and noted the tune delcowizzid sent me that was rich as buggery all over on the old donk was super lean with the fresh one so she breathes allright.
Made the second practice and didn't learn much apart from no traction anywhere but gathered a couple of wheelbarrow loads of mud/clay. skipped the last practice while i changed my rear tyre combo for something taller - now 205/70r15 rr, 205/65r15 lr in second with 3.08:1 diff still and delcowizzid popped another few chips in "the wee package" each with progressively more fuel/spark and chucked in some xr6 21lb squirters i got cheap and figured they aint much more shot but about 18yrs newer/cleaner and known to be real low milage.
Picked up a 2nd first race of the season and apart from a couple of incidents with fellow competitors its going a hell of a lot harder than last season. theres a thread on it elsewhere but i dont want to piss off the mods here. Scored a trailer before the third meeting so life is improving- started a new job last week which means sat.mornings are out for the last minute thrash to get ready but what the hell eh. Fourth meeting tomorrow night with some new chips to try so hopefully

Re: VN Production Saloon
out of interest are you able to run wider wheels ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: VN Production Saloon
yes we are, up to eight inches i think but being restricted to 205 max width road type tyres and wheels having to be a full set of matched there isn't much point especially as they are pretty expendable, 6inch rims can be found cheaply quite often and people want serious money usually for 7inch cop rims. Plus they are lifed for three seasons-----if they last that long

Re: VN Production Saloon
Been a bit since i've updated this, i havent had it out of the shed since april - its still got dirt on it from last season as i've been flat out with other stuff. It all got real again last night when i went with a mate to the clubrooms with a mate and forked out for club membership , SNZ license and hireage of transponder $320 all up.
Greensheeting down at the weighbridge starts this weekend and first practice 9th October with first meeting and fireworks on Guy Fawkes night which falls on a friday which is madness when you've got a day job and need to be going through scrutineering by about 5.30 so best i get the car on the trailer the night before
(need a sideways dirt flying icon)
still looking for some used sv3800 headers
CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO GET BACK OUT THERE AND DRIVE IT LIKE A RENTAL
