Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
need a wideband controller with 0-5v output to feed into the ecu it wont work with just the sensor by itself.a few of us are using the naw_7S from http://14point7.com/Widebands/NAW_7S/NAW_7S.htm
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
Looks good i have a nvram on it's way just have a few questions as i want to make sure i have everything right fromthe start as i want to get into it as soon as it arrives.
I have read elsewhere people advance the distributor to suit the 284 crane cam wouldn't this put everything out ?
and any suggestions as to what the idle timing should be set at.
Should i have the idle at 750 and set it at 10 degress in diagnostic mode as usual then bump the rpm up later.
Also my map at idle seems to read 50-55 is this normal .

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
the distributor should be at the factory setting of 10 degrees when in the ecm is in diagnostic mode
if you change it all your doing is adding/removing timing across the board and for people that have no idea about adjusting the spark table its probably the easiest way, but its not the right way to do it because irf you get a car and your looking at the timing in scanner pro say .... your seeing 25 degrees at idle in the gauge but the timing is advanced and theres actually 28 degrees at idle your never going to be looking at the right numbers.
anyways moving along
idle timing should probably 20-28 degrees ... depends on what the motor likes ..... generally the idle with the most vacuum (lowest map number) is what i aim for .... you'll find a bit more timing might give you more vacuum ... i dunno wheather this is right or not but thats how i go about it.
i'd start off with the idle maybe 800-850rpm ... better off starting a bit higher then drop it down a bit and see how it handles it if its too low it will not run real well and wont make tuning too easy then put it into diag mode, throw the timing light on it and make sure the dizzy is where it should be, then once thats done you can start adjusting timing in the tune!
map reading that with a cammy motor is pretty normal my mates 304 with a crane 286 type cam idles at about 60-70kpa but like i said above, try removing/increasing idle timing and see how it responds .... also make sure you have the idle timing and main spark timing maps identical numbers in the idle area or it will be flicking the timing all over the place.

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
Thanks yeah i had set it at 10 already in diagnostic and figured any adjustment would put everything out i even checked the timing whilst scanning and it said 22 degrees at idle and the with the timing light it seemed pretty close to 22 as well just wanted to be sure before i go adjusting everything.
I kinda figured they were just talking about using a standard tune.
Might have been a useful shortcut before nvram to adjust the dizzy get it idling where it liked to be then add or subtract the difference in the tune

i wouldn't be suprised if some of the people that moved the dizzy probably never got into the tune at all

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
Is their a way to do this using tunerpro rt i finally have the nvram got it all soldered up and running.
Is their a combination that works.
or a sequence sometimes opening a different adx then the same one i had open makes it work its all over the place.
Tunerpro rt version that connects edits and logs without a headache.
Version of antusprom to use ?
I seem to get the old version of tp5 to log ok and connect with a different adx but nothing changes when i edit etc.
I had antusprom and tp4 working but the logging with the 12p adx i couldn't get working.
Think i have just confused myself and fried my brain trying all sorts of combos
lol

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
For some reason i was under the impression i could use tunerpro rt and Just apply changes and they instantly were written to the nvram so i guess my previous rambling questions seemed a bit odd.
Anyway I have done a lot of reading and playing last night and learn't a few valuable time saving lessons.
Don't open the 12p adx with anything other then scannerpro if you open it with tunerpro it stuffs it up somehow and needles jump all over the place for me anyway.
Anyway so i am using holden 202's method
using flash tool i had to tick ignore echo and select the com port of my ftdi usb aldl and it works
Using tunerpro 4 to edit the bin you can then upload it to the nvram using write cal in flashtool
when browsing for your edited bin file to load into flashtool you need to change the file type your looking for from cal to bin then it works great.

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
There are a few ways to use the NVRAM board. You are able to use antusprom and have TP edit in realtime. The other way is like your doing with the flashtool. You can also edit a cal file in TP, just change TP to look for a cal file (*.cal)
The flashtool has just been updated so grab it and try out the new features

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
works great instant changes in rt 4 is their a way to get datalogging working with 12p in tp4.14 or to run scannerpro at the same time.
