not related to the petition, but good reading. InMalcolm Turnbull has sternly rejected an online petition which has so far garnered more than 200,000 signatures calling for the Coalition to support Labor’s all-fibre NBN policy, with the Communications Minister-elect claiming it wouldn’t be “democracy” for the new Coalition Government to reverse the rival NBN policy it took to the election.

I think they will install FTTN which will then need to be ripped up to upgrade to FTTP, thus locking the country in to old tech and holding us back

http://nbnexplained.org/wordpress/techn ... st-debate/
“Essentially to go down the FTTN road would mean something in the order of, greater than 50 per cent of the capital being put into digital cabinets in the suburbs,” he said. “They then become an obstacle to the final solution… fibre-to-the-premise. Fibre-to-the-node was not a stepping stone to fibre-to-the-premise. In fact, if anything it would put it backwards. The second reason, of course, is in no other market have people proceeded with fibre-to-the-node other than an incumbent. It is a solution that is the right solution for an incumbent that has a copper infrastructure.”1

Re: POLITICS-BORING-BUT CONTROLS EVERYTHING
i can understand going to FTTN if the cost was less but it's not, i could also understand using existing copper for the last mile to also save cost, but 90% the copper is not even worth using. Unfortunately it's all about the short term, not long term.
Most people already on ADSL get a usable speed for their current needs, going to FTTN wont give anything much better, the people who need the speed will be to far away for FTTN to work anyway so the whole FTTN is a pure waste of time.
Currently you can run Single mode 10G Fibre upto 7km and 1G Fibre upto 20km off the top of my head, this is what Rural AU needs, can't beat that with copper FTTN.

Re: POLITICS-BORING-BUT CONTROLS EVERYTHING
absolutely.
Where I work I have seen people who need to use http interfaces in real time to work from home as they work for businesses that dont have a physical office. When it rains some adsl connections drop out. If they cant get a fast and stable connection they can loose their jobs. FTTN, what a stupid idea.
