my main chain was about 20mm longer than the new one that replaced it! but the main thing causing the rattle was a broken tensioner ratchet. instead of holding tension when the oil pressure dropped off, it went loose and during cold start rattled until oil filled the tensioner and took up the slack. if it wasnt for that, I might not have known to change it at all.

I believe it sets an error code when the chains stretch to much.

and holden fixed this problem by initiating a recall and turning off that error code

bad sludgy oil would stuff up the hydraulic tensioner wouldn't it?

yeah it wouldnt help, and mine was bad and sludgy when I first got the car, but it wasnt the hydraulic funciton that was broken, it was the mechanical ratchet that allowed the tension to hold when the oil pressure dropped away. im not sure sludgy oil would affect that as the ratchet woudl prevent the tensioner from moving much anyway.

while my car was under warranty i did it by the book which was 15k services, once out of warranty i did the oil changes every 10k .... i also changed the 5 spd auto oil a few times despite it apparently "never needing to be done" as with the diff.

Ahh yeah, opened in 2009, over 5 years ago now and wow has it gone fast. I posted a few times on the code 59 forums trying to see if there was any chance it could get ported to '808 (no, there wasnt) and delcowizid saw my post and before long I had virtually met vl400, jayme and holden202 as well. Not too long later we realised that between us we had the skills to put together 12p. vl400 was already in to it and had some working code, I had a hacky way for making realtime code talk to tunerpro 4 (plugins didnt exist yet, they were marks answer to my nagging about adding proper aldl support and offering to contribute code) so instead it was emulating hardware and translating the protocol to ALDL http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30 . delcowizid/jayme and holden202t had much efi knowledge and skills and contributed a lot with knowledge and building/testing xdf/adx and software. We were all interested in running it on our cars and not happy with the only commercial offering still only running on old laptops under dos (2009!). Once we realised we could do it (and with tunerpro) it seemed time to start a forum and get it to the masses.

and the rest as they say, is history!

I just passed the 3 year mark last week too, but I was probably lurking for a week or two trying to read up on everything before I joined.
I remember looking around at the cheaper options for EFI back in 2003 when I first took an interest, and dismissing the delcos because I wasn't interested in burning a new rom every time I wanted to change something.
Then in 2011 when I picked the project back up, I was going through some of the information I'd collected from diy-efi years earlier, and something or other that I googled led me here.
I remember thinking wow, there's been a bit of progress made since I last looked at the old delco

And as for v8 bigots and the likes on other forums - my delco'd car is an old italian 4cyl, my daily is an old jap diesel 4x4, and I've never even owned a holden.... but nobody seems to hold that against me around here

that just makes you more of a trend setter festy

like when people say im wasting my time with 202's, even more reason to make one go even harder just to prove them wrong hahahaha
