Just an idea.
Since p12 and e40 seems really close from hardware and software point. Can we reverse the e40 capability to read slave data, and use same logic for p12 or there is something else locked.

Re: PCM Hammer P12 development
I think read is missing from the slave OS. There is heaps of security in the slave, I think for safety because its a throttle controller. It is very difficult to get your own code running on it, one wrong move and it reboots and your modified code is gone. usb jtag nt read is the best way, then analyze offline. That'll tell you straight up if the read command is available across the i2c bus from a custom kernel running on the main cpu.

Pretty much what it says. It always says that, it does not know how to check what the slave OSID is. You can click through that and write it, but if you find your electronic throttle stops working, you need to flash it with another tool that does write the slave to make it work, or to back out you can write the original bin back to how it was.

Re: PCM Hammer P12 development
what is the other tool or is that not yet developed / available?
i also just noticed P12b? is a 2mb (i guess i missed that)
looks like the 3 PCMs i grabbed at the yard today from the P12 list i found here, i got two P12b (2mb) and one P12 (1mb)
i assume they are not interchangeble / writeable?
My end goal here was to test flash on to a yard PCM (canyon/colorado) before potentially bricking the PCM in the vehicle (cobalt SS, 1mb) that i have. Ill post the bins i have gathered with info when the last one finishes, for reference.

Re: PCM Hammer P12 development
You can write the main flash, you can tune them. You cant put an OS on it that mismatches the Slave that is already there. You can be sure you can tune the existing OSID. And you may or may not be able to change it. I have no information about what OSID needs what Slave. Hence the warning. P12 and P12b are not compatible hardware. What vehicle interface do you have?
Other software is GM Techline SPS2, and I think winflash (tunercat) and hptuners can do it as well, both require a proprietary interface. Not sure about others.
For SPS2 you can change the vin with pcmhammer to match your car and pay for a 1 day pass to put the latest software one of the test pcms with a compatible J2534 interface. https://www.acdelcotds.com/
I can't help you more with that process though, I used the old version a couple of times but have never used SPS2. You'll need a quality interface like an obdxpro or a quality J2534. Note they reject MDI/MDI2 etc clones and lock your account.
You'd only need to do that once, then you could keep tuneing with pcmhammer and the matching osid and slave are already in there.
I have bricked my p12s more than once, I think I ended up locking out boot sector write to make it safe. At this point you need to figure out if your existing PCM is a p12 or a p12b, then read one of the p12 or p12b you picked up from the junk yard and save it away so you know which one it is and can put it back to stock if you need to. Then try and write your bin to it. This will cost you nothing and you'll see if you can get that far. Then you can put it in your car and see if electronic throttle works. Even if it doesnt you can use it as a test pcm for the flash process and once you've written it successfully with changes a couple of times and are confident you can do it again you can write the calibration back to your original PCM.
If you genuinely want 2 working PCMs, then if the slaves match you are lucky and you have it, and if they dont, then you need to jump through extra hoops, or get another PCM that has the right OSID to start with.
P12 and p12b may gain slave write support in the future, I would like to add it and have it working on some newer pcms so the concept is not new to pcmhammer now and the plumbing is in place to do it. So far nobody else has asked about it for P12 so it's been further down the todo list.

Re: PCM Hammer P12 development
i have been using an OBDLX for years for P01 / P59 swaps. everything i do is a chassis swap or off road vehicle, so VINs do not concern me
for P12 i have:
bench flash harness working
A 2007 Cobalt SS motor sitting on a pallet that i have no PCM for, would like to get it running on pallet.
A second complete 2007 Cobalt SS complete car that runs and drives (currently being parted out) and that bin read, 1mb P12
A third 2007 cobalt SS motor/harness/PCM thats a friends going into a rock crawler also, stand alone, everything pulled from vehicle.
ha!
no Cobalt SS in the junk yards, but Colorados / canyons are plentiful.
ill do some more playing and test flashing with the colorado P12 1mb i have and go from there before messing with the running car i have.
i do have HPtuners as a last resort.
bricking a few black boxes a while back has me gun shy on something new!
thanks for all the help so far.

Re: PCM Hammer P12 development
i was able to remove vats with universal patcher on one the P12b reads, and write back as a first good test write for me.
i will try to write the modified p12 1mb file to the junkyard P12 1mb (with different OS) and see if the throttle works in the car as my next step
