The truth is that it isnt worth $72 billion AUD to build an already outdated fibre to the node network by 2024 and which has no upgrade path to fibre to the premises.

I reckon dont build FTTN at all. Start building FTTP, build it at whatever speed is required. Its going to take a long time and the sooner started the better. Cost doesnt matter, build it as fast or as slow as is necessary for it to self fund at the wholesale level when it cant be justified to come out of the public coffers.

Re: POLITICS-BORING-BUT CONTROLS EVERYTHING
Totally agree! The FTTN idea sounds like an opposition idea just to oppose something when not in government that now must be built knowing full well its not what should be done. Its hardly a future proof idea that is not all that far from the RIM I am on now, copper to the RIM round the corner and fiber to the exchange.

Re: POLITICS-BORING-BUT CONTROLS EVERYTHING
Pulled from a post from a friend of mine. Its the list Ive been wanting but have had a hard time keeping up with, though I'll need to get details on some of the points:
I think it's time for a recap. Three months into a Liberal Gov and so far:
- Played a game of chicken with Holden that ensured the company would close its doors in South Australia
- they're selling Medibank Private
- Backflipped on GONSKI model which negatively impacts on every person reading this with a child at a public school
- Will give money from your kid's state school budget to a private school instead
- NBN policy blindfold - paying the same money for a second rate system
- offended our closest neighbours on various topics
- Increased our debt ceiling by more than I can count to
- Repealed the payrise for childcare workers
- Repealed the payrise for Aged Care workers
- threw out ACT marriage laws for same sex couples
- further dehumanised asylum seekers
- ensured that people on protection visas could never seek or receive permanent citizenship
- Approved a massive port on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef for coal - the dirtiest fuel there is
- Denies climate change is real and something we should plan for
- Denied new investment in Graincorp cause National Party had a tantrum

don't forget the low income tax threshold was decreased and also the super concession for low income earners was scrapped.
also cutting funds to renewable energy sector. Environmental protection laws being changed to allow development in national parks.
cutting funds for rural and regional infrastructure.
just some off the top of my head.

Re: POLITICS-BORING-BUT CONTROLS EVERYTHING
Wonder if they have costed in replacing all that copper. LOL they say now after they get into government, oh we can't give 25Mbit lol, typical blame NBN Co and Previous Government. Im sure they can do most for 25Mbit on ADSL but have now found out how much extra replacing copper costs and swept that one under the carpet.
