ECU from ebay, does it need scan tool?

Post by gibbo »

I was looking at this ecu on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VT-AUTO-ECU-VT-V ... 1510wt_910
he says

"you are bidding on 1 VT ECU all working and came from auto V6 3.8 model you are bidding on 1 ecu there are 3 for sale all have the memcals removed ,,they can be used in VT v6 or Vt auto or manual as long as the correct memcal is used ,,, when these are fitted to a new car they need a scan tool connected to enable them for security reasons 5 min job with a scan tool.

If I have a memcal with the vats removed, does the scan tool bit still apply or is it only if you still have a bcm hooked up?

If I disable vats and have a bcm still connected, will the other bcm functions still work? Low speed fan etc.

Also if I buy a bcm from the wreckers will this work with the disabled vats ecu I bought from a different wreckers?
In other words, do they need to match if the vats is disabled?

What exactly are you trying to get to work? If its in a VT then you will need the BCM and key head to be linked to each other or the starter relay wont work. If the PCM memcal has VATS turned off all the other BCM functions will still work and the engine will start.

ok. I have a vt v6 s/c ecotec with loom, bought on its own no ecu.
I have the ecu on its way, I will try to burn a memcal for it. with no vats
I can get a bcm from wreckers , I hope to use the low fan output, cel, maybe other stuff.
i dont want to use the commodore key (security) as the car has a different key
its all going in an old holden, but at this stage I am just getting the parts together.

I have new product thats nearing completion to simulate the BCM - everything works just doing some final testing. It links the PCM so dont need to disable VATS, provides low speed fan control, a CEL and A/C clutch control via the PCM. Does VR to VY so will work ok for you. Its an option if you dont want to try and get a BCM stashed under the dash for just a low speed fan!
