oooooohhh what a mixed bag this weekend has been!
so as you probably know had to put a trimatic in before coming to Casino because of the powerglide torque converter issues ...... so anyways, took the gemini out to Jaymes private test track, went for a bit of a warm up lap and to get a feel for the roads, i reckon it was less than two minutes into it and the tranny decided it would die, and that was probably less than 50% throttle .... so i drove the gemini back to the trailer in the only gear it had ..................... reverse .......
no sooner had i got back to the car and told everyone what was happening and Jayme was on the phone to his tranny mate, guess was forward sprag stuffed, anyways he happened to have a trimatic in the shed and was happy to donate it to the holden202 appeal, so we hi tailed it to another one of Jaymes mates, and got to pulling the old box out, and got the replacement box in, took her for a test and all seemed promising so i was ready for the meeting .......
i had planned to have a nice relaxing night at Jaymes with a few beers etc etc ..... so much for that, atleast i got the beers
so we go out to the casino airport, got through scrutineering etc and ready to race.
so got in it for the first run, frst gear was OK but i was only just on par with a au xr6 falcon, then second and it was just spluttering and a waste of tim .......
so had a look at the log, turns out i turned the ignition off before stopping the logger so that was a write off, and i thought fuck it, go back to what i had at WSID a few weeks ago, i knew it worked, so did that, and recorded what would be the fastest time of the meeting !!! ....
so anyways, i got 5 runs in at the end of the day but i was plagued with flat battery issues and if it wasn't that it was the tune being to lean and missing ..... and when i say too lean i mean, .2 AFR too lean was making it miss and was a waste of time really.
so if it wasn't that it was the radiator not wanting to keep the car cool.....
so i have some things to fix but it was good to get to have a run, and thanks to Jayme whos put us up for 2 nights and Jay who donated free of charge a trimatic to get me going and Rhyse (fastest blue torana) who has allowed me to have my car in his shed at his place locked up overnight, and who was also happy to let me use his facilities to change the tranny over!!
drag racing is definately not boring!
