Hemi Dodge 114

hi guys. i am in the process of converting a 245 hemi to efi. i'm using a cain 4 barrel manifold which has had bungs fitted for injectors. i bought some fuel rail extrusion and made a rail. my question is this, if i make a clamp which goes from the 2 carb mounting flange studs onto the rail, will this be enough clamping ? it just seems a long rail to only clamp near the middle. i'll get some pics up tomorrow.

Have clamped the middle on a V8 and had no problems but the extra length of the 245 might be an issue - the rails we used had a ~10mm thick base to thread in to and for the injectors to be machined in to.

the other question i have is, if i clamp it down solidly in the middle can i hold it down with strong springs at the end ? again, i'd better do a mock up and show you what i mean.

in this photo, i've made a (cardboard) bracket to hold the rail in place in the middle. one end bolts to the carb flange, and the other end to the rail itself.

another view. there's a heap of meat in the rail to drill and tap.

this is one end. the plan is to make 2 right angled pieces and wrap a long spring around the runner to hold down the ends. i'll check for extractor clearance before i get too excited.

after some discussion, i've decided to move the bracket attachment out to the next gap between injectors. more pics when it's done.

hi just a bit off topic but won't having the injector bosses angled straight at the manifold bottom cause the fuel to pool and not enter the cylinder correctly
its just that i've got a 265 i want to convert as well but the only manifold i can see would be any good are the alloy ones which by the look of them have an area on them to drill injectors at a 45 degree angle to the port but if this is ok then i'll just do this.

in a perfect world you want the injector spraying straight onto the back side of the valve but as you know we don't live in a perfect world and getting these angles right is sometimes no possible in the space provided.

it will still work you might just find it wont be as good at low rpms than one that points directly at the valve but i reckon once the air speed gets up in the ports its going to suck all the fuel through anyways.

have a look here, there is a nice bit of info with pictures and explaination!

the injector angle stuff is about 1/3 down the page.
