VE learn capability

Post by UCMatt »

Guys,
Has anyone had a play with the VE Learn function of either the $5D or $12 code? I have seen the flags in various XDF's but have never had a chance to see what it does.
I am hoping that with a realtime board and target A/F tables set at 14.7:1, the VE tables will be updated automatically (wishful thinking) .

I will have to pick the code apart and see how this stuff is intended to work.........

you pretty much nailed it ... if all the conditions are right (ie. engine up to temp, at a fixed load point for a certain amount of time etc etc) then yeah it will update the ve table for you .....

i dunno about the stock GM codes wheather simply ticking a box to enable it will make it work but i know the kalmaker gear has it all available.

from what i have heard it works pretty well, you can help it out and drive to the load points but even if you just enable it and drive around for a few weeks it will do a good job for you!

I hate to give you guys the bad news but to use this function with the $5D code or any other version you need the original Delco development hardware.
It updates the VE table in this external hardware (called the CDS) not in the prom.

The VE learn code is looking for ram at an address that won't exist in your ECM.
The other problem is that only part of the code to make this work is in the ECM , there's also extra code in the interface module that you don't have.

sounds like we need to write the extra code and fill in the blanks then!! .... unfortunately i have no knowledge in these areas :wall:
