blown grange

Post by blowngrange »

Hi
Im new to delco hacking , i have a 97 grange with a vortech blower thats doing my head in
When i go to start it ,it fires up fine but after 45seconds of running it dies and stalls
After it stalls the pump dosnt want to prime and my relays in the relay panel go nuts
What i have noticed is once i disconnect the battery for 10 seconds or so and reconnect it , it fires back up and is fine again for another 45 seconds

Now i had the ecu modded so it could control my thermo fans.
Also a new walbro pump was fitted that needed a massage to fit and battery was put into the boot

From what i have read the ecu controls the priming of the pump for 30 seconds or so on first start up by negitive switch from the ecu which seems to be doing but what happens after that 30 seconds ? what makes the pump run after the ecu turns off its signal ? or have i read it all wrong

any light into this is much appreciated
cheers
owen

The ecu primes the pump for a few seconds once you switch the car on (but before you key the starter to engage) If you dont key the starter you'll hear it run a couple of secs then stop. The fuel system should stay pressureised. Normally you just key it to start straight away and the pump runs, and it starts. Pump keeps going when the car is on. There is usually about 20 or 30 seconds of enrichment from startup, and it sounds like you car needs it to run at all - eg your tune doesnt suit what youve got. You'll need to take some logs of it to see whats really going on.

As soon as the ecu gets a reference signal from the ign module it turns the fuel pump relay back on for a few seconds.Have you earthed the diag wire and got any codes.

is this a vt?
if it is consider cleaning and checking the main dash harness earth in the engine bay behind the battery

no codes are present and its a vs s2 grange , i did some checks yesterday , i wanted to see if i was getting 12v to the relay box as the battery is in the boot now , i put another earth from the rear of the gearbox to one of the spare crossmember bolts holes after doing this i started it up and after 45 seconds to 1 minute the engine would cut out and fuel pump would stop priming , but this time all what would happen is the injectors were pulsing and the ignition relay went nuts ....never had the injectors done this before
So i started looking for shorts in the wiring loom what i found by accident was when i put my multimeter from the starter solinode body to engine block i had voltage there.
what i have found is that the insulators on the positive power stud on the solinode have broken away causing the power lead to be shorting out ......
i havnt changed the starter yet but i removed the positive terminal from the battery ......
Could this short cause so much drama , what im thinking is when the engine rocks on its mounts its causing the stud to touch earth causing my iss to reset causing the engine to shut down ...
For the relays im coming to the conclusion that since it was shorting out to ground it was causing my negitive signal relays to chatter ......ill get a new starter tomorrow and let you guys know how i go .......
