VT LPG ECU mod for 5Ltr ECU

Post by norm426 »

Hi All

I have a VT V6 ecu from a factory LPG car, it has a ecu input on A9 to disable the injectors and fuel pump, i was wondering if anyone knows if I could modify a 5ltr ecu or chip to use the A9 pin to do the same.

I wonder if i used the V6 ecu with the 5ltr chip but there must be some code in the bin to tell it what A9 does.

I checked the 5ltr loom and it doesnt use the pin.

If it can be do i wonder if it could done for the VS 5ltr also, i have one of each.

Cheers

not that i know of, VT V6 and VT V8 are different pcm's, VS series 3 V8 is the same as VT V8 and 1&2 are 424's(VR V6 424 had factory LPG), factory LPG was only on V6's. Not to say it can't be done but there'd need to be some code hacking most likely

Im not hugely knowledgable about vs v8, but if the dash does not need aldl data from the pcm, then perhaps you could hook an additional set of contacts on the lpg switch so that it disconnects the aldl line from the pcm. That way, if you turned off, flicked the switch (disconnecting the pcm from the aldl bus), then keyed on again, it'd fail vats which would disable the injectors. Im not sure what other side effects that would create though... I think the ecu is the bus master, so might break abs or airbag comms and break those sub systems and also throw a cel?

Hi Antus, that vats idea is exactly it, i didnt think of it but it is what needs to happen.

The problem is this is in a wb tonner and as such i have disabled the vats to get it running, so i would need to enable vats for gas.

That could be as easy as swapping the memcal every time i change fuels but that would be a pain.

I really need to work out how to use a spare input to either enable vats or switch the injectors off.

I know i could do this manually by cutting into the engine loom but i was hoping not to.

I have a vs clubsport 5ltr also, it uses pin D5 as a knock sensor input, the ecu is exactly the same as the std vs 5ltr which has this pin spare. If i could work out how the input activates to knock code, and if i knew how the the lpg code cuts the fuel and injectors, maybe i could work out how to make the knock input cut the fuel.

I may be way offtrack here but it seems so close, it has to be able to be done

checkout that other thread on here about having dual chips, just swap a jump you could even rig the jumper upto a switch on the dash.
