Suitable laptop for tuning

Post by v8-tuning »

Hi all, looking at getting a new laptop
Just wondering what people are using and whats good and what isnt
before i go buy one and if its cheaper online ?
Not looking for a real expensive one as its mainly for tuning not much else.
My current computer is an acer aspire but too small a unit and has windows 7.
Need something with a much larger screen when im data logging and tuning.

Another thing I'd consider is an anti glare screen. I have one laptop with a Matt screen and the other glossy. The glossy screen is near impossible to see on a sunny day as picks up reflections from everywhere.

agree with the above, its mainly about screen, and not physical size, but resolution. Unfortunately the higher resolution screens cost. That HP has a 1366 x 768 display, and IMHO 768 vertical resolution isnt enough. You could get away with it, but if you want to fit a logging dash (even a squashed up one) and a VE table on the screen at the same time.... i'd go higher. The price will jump though.

Something more like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-DV6-15-6- ... 0906237366

Purely for the screen, but while your at it everything is waaaaaay better too.

i agree about the screen, not an issue most of the time but definately an issue for me at the drags tuning in the staging lanes :P and i couldn't imagine having a glossy screen!

i have a dell latitude laptop provided by work, i am also the IT dept at my work and i can't really fault dells, they have good warranty and do everything i need!

Yeah i couldnt dyno tune with bubble tracing on mine with 1280x800.. had to hook up the home pc screen for that (or drag the VE window around a lot)... but if your just editing bins direct without the realtime you could get away with lower res.

Well, the guy has good enough feedback, but the add does say that its not a new unit (its 'refurbished' whatever that means), and I cant personally vouch for him so its your choice.
