Knock Detected?

Post by v6bucket »

I've got a problem with the Dato. It was run at a test n tune several months ago, tuning as I went with the car recording an 11.98 at 112mph. When I got home I studied the logs that I'd recorded & noticed that it had "Knock Detected" & "Knock Sensor Circuit" set, subsequently it has retarded the timing, 12 "Knock Retard Value". Before the next meeting I burnt a chip, the same as at the T n T, test fired the car & it ran OK, but when I tried to fire the car up the following day, It wouldn't start like it was miles to rich, no wide band hooked up to the car, so I was only guessing & fitted the previous tune in, to race.
I plugged the laptop into the car today & it is running very rich. The log & bin is below.
JM1v111.bin
(32 KiB) Downloaded 304 times
dato2.xdl
(238.63 KiB) Downloaded 315 times
This is the TnT. the 1/4 mile pass is between 1:55 & 2:13. I increased the fuel after this. The Knock sensor wasn't connected but still registers as "Knock Detected"
JM1v111.1.2.bin
(32 KiB) Downloaded 268 times
Dato 30712.xdl
(735.1 KiB) Downloaded 291 times
This is the log from today with the engine warming up. It's pig rich.

I then reduced the Injector Constant by 20% with no other changes, & the engine is not quite as rich. Knock sensor still disconnected.

JM1v111.1.3.bin
(32 KiB) Downloaded 307 times
Dato 30712.1.xdl
(335.93 KiB) Downloaded 276 times
I then attached the Knock sensor at 1:56, then revs picked up then dropped at 2:05.
Knocked detected is registered but as far as I can tell the knock sensor circuit is turned off, but still operating. Can someone have a look at the tunes & logs above & tell me where I'm going wrong. The tune is a 12p, VP engine with SC14 blower using Methanol with 60lb injectors.

Have you got a knock filter? The knock counts are at approx 200 counts all the time.

If using a NVRAM you will need a memcal plugged in to the header pins of it, and make sure the memcal has the EPROM at the same end as the NVRAM IC (there is a pic in the instructions that show the orientation).

If you dont want knock sensing change "ESC params - Coolant temp to enable knock control" to 151deg

I didn't have a memcal plugged in, I'll fit one tomorrow.
"ESC params-Coolant Temp enable" is currently set at 56.00 degC. I'll lift it to 151°C if it's not needed later.

yeah if you have it how you do that basically assuming the knock sensor is in place and working, and because you don't have the knock filter effectively there is a circuit error hense the error code and also the 12 degrees retard. 12 degrees retard will also make it richer, but by how much i can't say.

i'd either fit a memcal with knock sensor and use it (and decrease the knock retard value maybe to 4-6 degrees) or just do as VL400 said and turn the knock sensor off all together.

I not going to Gunnedah, I've got to work(unless I'm really sick), but Dato might be going, his daughter has a music exam on the Saturday.
