Custom memcal, tune etc VN V6 Hilux BAAM 808

Post by S1VNV6Hilux »

i was wondering if anyone has had any experience in VN V6 Hilux conversions and have modified memcals, tunes, etc for BAAM 808, to better suit 4wd. I would love to be able to get my fuel economy down.. 15L per 100km on the highway and up to 20L+ per 100km when in 4wd. Generally it averages around 17L per 100km. My conversion is a series 1 vn v6 with a TH700R-4 gear ratios: 1st 3.06:1 2nd 1.62:1 3rd 1.00:1 4th 0.70:1 installed in a 94 RN105r Hilux Diff 4.875 ratio, 31 inch tyres, Transfer case i believe is 2.556. any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers

You can play with the lean cruise ect on it, it may also not be going in to lean cruise if theres to much revs because of the diff gears. Lots of other things to like fan temps, 2 and 3 bar map tunes ect.
It wouldnt hurt to check the o2 sensors are functioning correctly either. Being a hilux its never going to be great economy but should be able to get some better figures than that

the earlier tunes don't have lean cruise.

question, what revs are you seeing at cruising 100kms ?

without a tacho its a bit hard to say at the moment.. I need a higher voltage output from my dfi module to run my tacho interface from marks 4wd. but from just listening to the revs i would say it is around 2800rpm (way too high) and with the torque converter locked (manual switched) around 2500 -2600 rpm.. i am in the current process of obtaining the correct hardware to get aldl info out. I only have a modern laptop without RS232. I have read i need a vr manual ecm to get the most of the data i require. im currently running the norm 808 ecm with sv3800 chip. I was wondering if the NAVRAM board available here would avoid me having to use the vr manual ecm to get the higher 8192baud rather than the 160baud? i can see that it allows real time tuning which i need, just not to sure if it avoids using the vr ecm?? currently their are no sensor faults etc.. i have good power, etc.. trans shifts nicely and smooth but i pretty sure with the gearing i have i need the shift points adjusted as well as lowering the rpm at 100kms.. sorry im still a novice at all of this.

VN's are fully hydraulic auto... you cannot change the shift points, the best you can do is slacken or tighten the cable from the auto to the throttle body. if you get the usb or serial interface for 808 then you dont need to get a VR manual ecm.

thanks Jayme.. sorry , i should i explained that i was going to have the trans modified to adjust shift positions to better suit my gearing. Would it still be beneficial for me to buy the NVRAM ECM Conversion? what is the best USB serial interface for the 808 ? cheers

For the 808 to have full tuning and logging at 8192baud using usb you need...
NVRAM - https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=167
USB - https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=164

The NVRAM lets you make changes on the fly and the USB lets your laptop connect for logging and tuning.

Thank you Jayme & Vl400 You have made it very easy for me.. your help is greatly appreciated. cheers once again.

VL400 - if i buy both of these from you does it come with all the cables required to hook up to the 6pin aldl ? and or instructions on what i need to connect to get both the NVRAM and USB interface linked to aldl to get it all working together ? just want to make sure i have all the information i need to hook it all up before i buy. a complete pack would be awesome. cheers
