VS Commodore 202 Drag Car :)

your probably going WTF .... but yes we are putting a 202 in a VS Commodore.

kinda related to my car but also not

this is the engine that used to be in the gemini, naturally aspirated on EFI methanol, so i have decided to put this in my brothers VS Commodore drag car that is in need of a motor

so first step was to get the carby manifold and got it running with a methanol 500 holley with the help of my mate at his workshop , will soon be taking it to my brothers and installing in the VS, will be backed by a T700 with 3000rpm stall, 4.11 diff, slicks and approx 1200kg car so should do mid to high 12's i reckon!

finally got some more progress

its only sitting there on the sump at the moment, but its pretty well in the location its going to go, and the gearbox is screwed into the V8 mount location so we are going to source a v8 tailshaft (easy) and then just make some solid mounts for the front of the motor.

i can't believe how nice it fits, about 2 inches at the back of the tappet cover and the water pump is about 3/4 in off the thermo fan. we cut approx 1 inch off the fan shroud and shes magic!

this engine has been gold since end of 1999 (mind you its had about 4 rebuilds and upgrades along the way) VHT Universal Gold!

Yeah I remembered that from previous posts (not to mention your LOGO), how much work has it done though & can you get stronger than 500 degree now a days? (might be necessary if forcing air down it's throat)

i've never had an issue with the engine enamel burning or anything even on the turbo 202.

work its done ... lets see:

2 x 1/4 mile passes running like shit (turned out to by dodgy lead) at wsid
a few hours on the dyno.
4 x 1/4 mile passes at wsid
5 x 1/8 mile passes at gunnedah
3 x 1/4 mile passes at wsid
4 x 1/4 mile passes at wsid
6 x 1/4 mile passes at wsid
9 x 1/8 mile passes at gunnedah
6 x 1/8th mile passes at casino

i'd say its just about run in as far as the motor goes its WAY bullet proof for the HP its making so should last forever.

but i do plan to get the head back and maybe the solid cam one day, if i do the one thats on the gemini now will go to the brothers cause

oh and if you are wondering yes i do have a spreadsheet with every run the gemini has ever done

Reminds me of the holden test car up here hot weather testing and seeing a vs commodore with a 6 cyl twin cam opel motor for singapore market.

Holden202T well it's definitely strong enough & yeah I'd say run in after all that work & funny to see you've kept every data sheet of it's work!

What the expected power to the wheels?

didn't the old 202's have an issue with flow to the back of the block & overheating rear 2 cylinders?
