VT PCM with NVRAM

Hi all, I'm new to tuning. I have a VT V6 NVRAM board I wish to install in my VT commodore. I have heard that ecu's are not interchangeable in the VT model like they are in the VN & VP. Something about that they can only be replaced with an ecu of the same part number. Does anyone know if this is correct?

My plan was to get a VT ecu from a wrecker and put the NVRAM into it and put that in my car. That way I can leave the original ecu intact and reinstall it if required later.

Can anyone shed any light on this subject for me please?

theres is no need to get another ecu as the one you have now will allow you to unplug the old memcal and install the NVRAM without having to modify anything.

The VT V6 & Supercharged V6 PCM (16233396) is the same, however they will have different memcals.
The PCM is linked to the BCM, so unless you disable VATS (or re-link the new PCM and BCM) you cannot just swap your existing one for a wreckers one.
However, VATS itself is simple to disable, especially once the NVRAM is fitted.

I don't see any real reason why you would need to swap the PCM; you remove the kick panel, pull the PCM out of its clip, undo the two torx screws, pull the memcal out and plug the NVRAM in.
The NVRAM is unlikely to damage the PCM. Keep the memcal, that you pulled out, in the car as a spare so if something goes wrong (i.e. NVRAM becomes corrupt) you can put the original memcal back in.

Ahh ok thanks guys. So do I need to disable VATS to use the NVRAM? If so how do I do this?

Also just curious how do you relink a PCM to the BCM?

If you open the VT A5G XDF there will be a flag item called something like "Theft Deterrent Flag. Set = VATS Off". If you plug the NVRAM in to your PCM it will start and run as it does now its only if you swap the PCM out you need ot disable it. The NVRAM is loaded with the VT V6 bin CXWB (this is A5G, the XDF is here .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5)

Most would be using tech-2 to relink the PCM to a BCM.

Thanks for the info VL400. Why is there so many different XDF's for the VT V6? What is the difference in them?

Because Holden revised the code several times over the life of the VT, which added new functionality (probably not things noticeable to the driver however), and that changed the offset locations in the bins and thus require a different XDF to suit.
