Hi guys,
I'm thinking of getting a Holden Barina (1994) SB 1.4L single point TB system to replace my Aisin 28/32 Carburettor. I've got the computer and loom from a Daihatsu Mira which is supposedly analogue (and can change variables alot easier)
But i've been told elsewhere that using the delco system might be better, thought that means I'd have to get the ECU to read the electronic distributor somehow?
Any ideas would be great.

If its got a reluctor in it (quite likely) then it'll interface to the JE camira/N13 Pulsar ignition module and to the delco no problems.

There is no 3 cyl support so you will have to fudge the RPM readings in TunerPro and when tuning anything RPM related.

thats a point, would that mean 9600/2=4800 rpm max?

or is it 3*2 = 6 => 9,600 *2 = 19,200?

Hehe, that'd open up options for a high revving little machine. Seems to make sense, for each engine revolution the ecu would have counted half.

Sorry, is the reluctor part of the Computer or the distributor? - I have done an electronic distributor conversion.antus wrote:If its got a reluctor in it (quite likely) then it'll interface to the JE camira/N13 Pulsar ignition module and to the delco no problems.
I know there's a doomajig on the firewall to convert the tacho into a 3 cylinder.
The other concern I had with the delco computer was that some are apparntly transponder locked to a key, can you get around this?
And i'd also have to get a 1 or 2 bar map sensor yes? I'm only running factory boost.
Edit: How many triggers does a delco computer need? The electronic distributor has 3 triggers/teeth on the reluctor wheel.

It will need one tooth per cyl in the dizzy, so 3 will work. If the dizzy is now a reluctor style pickup then the camira ignition module can be used. Only VR commodore and later have VATS (vehicle anti theft system), but its very easy to disable so no problem there.
Take note of the RPM readings being out though, this will need you to make some changes to get it working. The ECU will think the RPMs are half actual if you set it to 6cyl which will require a fair few changes.
You need a 2 or 3 bar map sensor for boost, 2 bar for up to 14.7 PSI and 3 bar if your going higher than that.

Sorry for my ignorance, what's the ignition module? Is that the fuel pump relay or is that different again.
I know you keep mentioning Camira setup but is that the same as the Pulsar/Barina? hard to find Camiras these days.

Its the module that sits between the reluctor in the distributor, and the delco.
It accepts the reluctor signal, and provides a delco 4 wire interface (ref high, ref low, EST, and bypass). It also drives the coil.
When cranking, it'll fire the coil with a static 10 degrees, to get it going, and after the ecu has got sync it'll signal 'bypass' and start sending Electronic Spark Timing signals down the EST wire, and signal 'bypass'. The ignition modules own 10 degree spark is then bypassed, and the ecu is in control.
It looks like this. Reluctor wires in the top, coil b+ and ground to the bottom left, and 4 wires from the plug on the right to the delco. If you disconnect the delco from the plug on the bottom right, the car with run with a static 10 degree timing - one way to test the ignition.
And they are very common. The N13 pulsar and the JE camira run the same delco '808 efi system. Many other systems run this ignition module. They tend to be mounted at the base of the distributor. At the wreckers if you go looking under the bonnets of daewoos, you tend to either find a different coilpack setup or one of these modules when they are distributor. The N13 pulsar is the best bet though, as they are common and you can pull the entire EFI loom out, keep the delco and all the sensors and thats pretty much all the hardware you will need, with the exception of the realtime kit.
You will need to consider the throttle body, too. The JE/N13 have a 5v TPS (throttle sensor), but pretty much any can be connected, but they also have an idle air controller (IAC). Ideally you do want to retain one of these. Perhaps the manifold you use will have one in which case it'll be easy, if not then the best option might be transplanting an N13 TB on, so the right hardware is on there.
