4l60e trans shift question

Post by hsv08 »

My trans has given up the ghost in 2nd gear and slips quite bad under light throttle. Upped the force motor a pressure a bit in 2nd gear which held a bit but gone bad again.
What I have come up with was to get trans to shift straight from 1-2-3. I copyed the up shift maps for 2nd and pasted them into 3rd but raised the kph a few kilometers
Works good but still changes into second for a a split second then third

Question is does 2nd need to be applied before 3rd mechanically? If not I may copy all 2nd gear tables into third gear and zero out the 2nd gear change. New trans due in mid April

From memory the 4l60e is primarily still a mechanical system with an electrical control component.
I do not think it is possible to get it to just skip gears electronically.
Also It is rare for one of these to go wrong in just one gear I think you've got bigger problems. good luck

1st and 2nd are the low clutches in the bottom of the case, 3rd and 4th are in the drum. Sounds like a leak, say 1-2 Accumulator Piston.

Does 4th apply? 2nd and 4th apply on the drum with a common band. Reason I ask is could be a shift solenoid fault only rather than mechanical damage.

Well what it was doing before was it was slipping in 2nd in and out under wot. 4th gear was still fine, then it started slipping when kicking back into 2nd. Then eventually started slipping under part throttle. As far as I'm aware 4th has been there but have a odd feeling it's not anymore. Will take a log tonight and check

Just as a reply. Car still has 4th gear. What would I be looking at now? 1-2 accumulator and now a burnt band?
