Im helping a mate set up a VT V6 and auto on a stand to drive some equipment.
I have some diagrams here from this site. Id appreciate some feedback on my thinking before i rip into this in the coming weeks.
http://www.oldholdens.com/temp/carstuff ... iagram.pdf
Igntion power onto A4 and also DFI Injectors and Auto.
Battery onto A8 B8
With the start signal onto F8. Is that required? I see it earths the starter relay on F5.
Do i need the ECU to control the starter? Im used to the 808's and they dont control this.
Also it wont have the Commodore T Bar shifter mounted. Does the ECU need to know what position the selector is in?
With the BCM controlling low speed fan, do people lower the high speed fan on temp in the ECU?
I havnt looked at any VT BINs yet but will need one with VATS off.
Does the BCM control alternator charging?
Im not up with alternator wiring and as this wont have a dash or charge light is there a way to wire this differently?
This is my first dealing with the later model ECU's so lots of learning to be had.
Thanks in advance

also A6 to fuel pump control relay, then im pretty sure that will be enough to start it with VATS off.Igntion power onto A4 and also DFI Injectors and Auto.

no you dont need the ecu controlling the starter, just wire a button to the starter solenoidWith the start signal onto F8. Is that required? I see it earths the starter relay on F5.

no the auto has a range switch inside the box to know what gear is selected. you dont need the T bar. Also it wont have the Commodore T Bar shifter mounted. Does the ECU need to know what position the selector is in?
yes you lower the high speed fan temp. I think there is some other patch to get it to use high speed and ignore low speed. someone else might know more about this. With the BCM controlling low speed fan, do people lower the high speed fan on temp in the ECU?

the BCM has nothing to do with the alternator. big wire goes to battery. S goes to battery, L goes to a light (yes you have to mount a globe somewhere as this excites the fields) other side of light goes to ign +Does the BCM control alternator charging?

Re: VT V6 Conversion
Thanks for the help very good info. That PDF is great.
Out of interest would the ecu let the engine start in gear? Say the selector was in D or 1?

Re: VT V6 Conversion
Might look at wiring the dash in then for charge light and engine light.
Temp and tacho and fuel pump would be neat altogether.
Id say the cluster wiring would be in the pdf above given it's 350 pages

Re: VT V6 Conversion
the ecu cannot tell which range the stick is in till the engine starts as the range selectors that tell the ecu which gear its in measure the oil pressure of different oil galleries in the gearbox. all of which are unpressurised until the engine starts. so I doubt it will be a problem. the engine will definitely start. quesiton is, will the ecu panic after that? no idea.
if you want check engine light you need BCM too. bcm is the bus master for the ALDL and the dash cant talk to the ecu unless the bcm is also present.
the cluster wiring isnt in there
that pdf is the diagnostic charts for the engine. its in a separate area of the manual

Ok thanks again mate. Might leave the cluster out for now.

Owner doesn't care about gauges but im pretty keen to have something at least a temp.
To runn the BCM i guess it's just power and data. I will look over the BCM wiring tonight is it in your PDF?

Re: VT V6 Conversion
Looking through tge diagnostic manual it gives some BCM wiring between the fault codes.
Think i might connect the BCM and cluster. Makes better job of it.
But will still get a memcal without VATS at least as the original key switch wont be used.

Re: VT V6 Conversion
VS PCM has similar wiring, could use one of those, then dont need to wire BCM in. You'l get single fan and MIL blink etc.
