LS1 ECU Remove Security

Post by Dylan »

A mate has asked me to modify a LS1 loom for conversion. I've never done one but should work it out.
The ECU will need security removed. Is it still called VATS in these one's?

For this to be done does it require credits etc to be brought and cost $100's?
Or could someone do it with software such as Tazzi has made?

All help appreciated.

you can use efilive, hptuners, tunercats or various other commercial software/cables. tazzis elm tool will not work as elms cannot flash.

yes it is called VATS, you simply need to flick the VATS off and reflash. it is about $100 or more in credits for efilive or hptuners, unless the owner has unlocked unlimited year/model/stream. tunercats doesnt use licenses (this is what I use) so flashing costs time and electricity only :P

Can you interface a wide band with these ecu's when logging?

tunercats isnt for sale anymore but if you can find one (they use an avt 852 cable) it will flash bins in with no ongoing licensing fees. the editing software isnt as flash, but has all you need defined. there are also xdf's hanging around. also after using hptuners a bit this week, tunercats has waaaaay less licensing issues. you can flash any bin onto any ecu, dont have to worry about license and VIN and crap ... what a pain in the ass hptuners is to use !!!@#!%#@%@#$

I believe a user has created a free flashing tool to use with an AVT 852 cable too, so combine that with a decent xdf and you have your free flashing solution.

you cannot hook a wideband into an ls1 but most of the cables have an analog in feature in the cable electronics. HPtuners has this. also the AVT 852 cable that I have has an analog input and I can poll the 0-5v value in my ADX just like any other sensor from the ecu.

Thanks for the info Jayme. I will keep looking into it.
I have seen some xdf on here for them. So i could flash a hsv 250kw bin to my vz ss without changing vin's?

Just had a look. Looks like different OS. Is that an issue?
I don't intend on doing it just reading up on all this.

different OSID is not an issue as long as you flash it into the same PCM model. VZ's had 1meg verison of the earlier ls1 pcms for the 5.7's, then E38's for the 6.0L. needless to say, the OS's between the two are not interchangable.

also you cant just flash on a 250kw tune and expect 250kw :P that being said the main differences between the higher KW models was the headers, cats and exhaust. on earlier ls1's you can put extractors and exhaust on them, then do a decent tune and easily outperform the higher kw models. there are other differences in the executive and clubsport tunes like diff ratio, speed sensor stuff etc... its always best to start with the correct model tune for your car body, then just tune it properly from there. the easiest gain in an executive/clubsport tune is just fattening up the low RPM fuelling in the PE tables... they are way lean in the non-clubsport tunes and you gain loads off the line.

Im thinking of getting vz air box and exhaust.
Then tune it myself. Might hold out for Tazzi cable see if it can flash tunes done with tuner pro.
I hear there's a good adx about for logging.
