G'day everyone.
I'm in the process of process of putting an injected Holden v8 in my HZ tonner.
I want to run a knock sensor.
Does it matter which side I mount the sensor on?
I was planning to put the knock sensor on the LH side of the engine where there is heaps of room from the extractors, but the block drain plug is well and truely seized in and I've now made a round mess of it. My experience with things like this before is that I'm best to leave it alone if I can rather than try drill it out etc.
The one on the RH side has come out fine. The only issue is there is only approx 1 inch clearance between the sensor with the connector on it and the extractor pipe, and the dipstick comes out of the sump directly below it.
I've got to modify the dipstick tube anyway for the extractors, and I recon if it will be fine to move the sensor to the RH bank I could work around it, and make a heat shield that mounts off the dipstick to stop the wiring melting or wrap it with heat wrap possibly?
Also I PMed Antus last week about buying a NVRAM conversion and USB Comms for an 808 but I havnt got any response. I realise he's probably busy. Is there anyone else who can help me out there?
Thanks in advance,
Daniel
Holden v8 knock sensor location
Re: Holden v8 knock sensor location
HSV ran them on right side. But very common to swap sides due to extractor clearance.
Either side seems to work.

either side, you'll still hear knock from the opposite side just not as loud. Hell I can get my syncro hub teeth engaging with a knock box, even just touching lol
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Re: Holden v8 knock sensor location
As Dylan said.
We've got an original VS SS ute with the VT engine, which had the knock sensor on the R/H side of the block, but has been changed to the L/H side of the block because of the problems with clearance for the extractors and "round" bellhousings or T290 Getrag gearboxes in VS's or something. It wouldn't fit, anyhow. Doesn't matter which side it's on. It still works, so I don't think it really matters.
