The man cave.
Anyone here have mezzanine level in their shed? I'm looking at building one in mine so I can store gearboxes, engine blocks, axles assembleys and all the other crap that ends up in your way. I'm interested in what people have done flooring wise and also for lifting stuff up there. I'm thinking of using yellow tongue for the flooring and one of those electric hoists you see on eBay with the articulated arm mount, then I could just have a pallet permanently attached to the hoist and store it up top.
I'm finding as I get older it's good to put these ideas to a panel. So many times I've gone at a project like a bull at a gate and later seen other people's setup and thought "I should have done it that way".
Thanks.

Re: The man cave.
I've been planing to built one for the last 5 years but I'd rather spend the money on the cars lol.
I find it hard to justify the cost of material. I just think they are way over prices for what you get.
I'm wanting to redo all my walls and insulate the roof and walls and rodent/dust proof my shed first after I get some pallet racking happening (also over priced) before a mezzanine.
My plans was to replace all the exterior tin to corrugated except the roof as it is already corrugated. I've had to patch some bits of the wall where the tin rusted out with unobtanium left over sheet or 2 of the 25 year+ ago obsolete profile.
So outside tin replaced, all borer eaten oragon pine purlins replaced with steel ones, insulation and then the inside lined with corrugated, wired and power points as I have none atm.
I have to have special flashing made, probably laser cut to infill the corrugations at the bottom of the wall against the concrete to block air, dust and mice etc...
I have to rip up the roof and line it with insulation and use foam infills at the ridge and eaves to block dust. Every time its windy (90% of the time it is) piles of shit blow in through there and leave a 20m long pile in the middle of the shed. I fill a vacuum twice over ever week or so.
So big renovation job. I already did tons of work getting it concreted in 2012. Cost me 8K to get 200m2 concreted at 6" thick and apron as well. It cost so little as I did all the prep my self so the concreters for the day and concrete was 90% of the cost.
My shed is 20 x 10.5 x 6m, its pretty big so everything costs an arm and leg to get done and is exhausting as there is so much..... Fuck!

Re: The man cave.
How about a couple of shipping containers inside your shed, cut some sides out, add shelving to the container walls and the roof is your mezanine. Cheap and easy.
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

Looked at that idea. ideally I need to be able to park 3 cars under mine. Shipping container sizes dont match my odd shed size. Everything is in odd sizes in my shed, purlins are 3.7m, walls are 4m high all non standard sizes when it comes to materials. It shits me.
If containers fit your shed correctly they are great. I do plan to get a small one and turn it into an assembly room for dust free controlled environment. Perfect for heating during winter so sealants and paints cure correctly. small ones are 20' long.

Re: The man cave.
Yeah, a mezz is really the only option for me. Not worried about the cost, I just need a safe, uncluttered the work area. Likewise, I wouldn't fit a container in my shed and if I could I would almost need to dismantle the shed to get the container in. I have no need for pallet racking either. I scored some industrial grade shelving from work a few years back when we moved to a smaller premises, so lots can fit in those and anything too big or heavy will go on the meZz.

Re: The man cave.
I looked, you can get 10' containers. thats 3m by 2.44 by 2.55 high.
For my shed I can make it using 4x 20' containers but it wont work for car parking under them. It be cheaper to build a proper floor than half assing it with 4 containers.

That's worth knowing, but in my case it's still not an option. I will be putting in a mezz. We moved here in 06, I've been sharing my shed with my lovely wife (I don't think she has a login here but can never be too carefulvlad01 wrote:I looked, you can get 10' containers. thats 3m by 2.44 by 2.55 high.

Re: The man cave.
I've just about managed to clean out one bay in my garage, now my boy is planning on putting a weights bench in there. 2 weeks I've been able to see the floor in there.......
I think I'll build a carport this year......
