Wideband Placement

Post by Dylan »

I'm on a bit of a run lately with tunes. Just wondering where people are fitting there widebands when tuning and logging. I've been fitting them in the stock narrow band location and trying to get the loom into tha cab somehow. I've read up on all the different theories on pre and post cat locations. Just wondering if anyone's done any back to back comparisons on tail pipe and pre cat?

If you force open loop wouldn't that minimise the amount of O2 the cat would store?
I like the idea of measuring all the cylinders compared to 2 in some cases with stock NB location.

Interested in everyone's thoughts on here.

Mine is located in std castlemaine headers location, going by there design and fit I'd say it's far from ideal, however on "bigg G's" dyno his wideband and mine were basically the same so I'd say it's much of the same. Howevery Q has no cats so I don't know if that influences

I have mine just before the cat on the passanger side.
Run the cables into the car near the pcm.

I do see a bit of a delay from commanded to when the WB registers my last exhaust had the WB bung a bit further up towards the heads and didnt really see as much of a dely.

For a temporary install, usually in place of the NB and run the cable out the back of the bonnet and in the passenger's window :)
Works well on cars with front hinged bonnets at least...

ive noticed about 0.6 - 1 AFR difference before and after the cat. If your at a dyno shop and they have a (trusted) tailpipe wideband you can put yours in place of the narrowband and hold a couple of load points and compare yours and theirs to know exactly the difference on your car with cats in your condition.
