Vy engine swap

Post by Jessie »

Hello all,

one of my customers has done and engine swap on VY v6, they have removed the supercharged motor and installed a naturaly aspirated one. he has told me that he has had the PCM and the BCM linked. he has seen the engine running before installation into his car but i am unable to get the engine to start, it cranks over with no issues but just wont fire(no spark or pulse).

I have replaced the CAS even though the engine was runnning previously and still nothing. i have gone over all the wring and it all looks good!!.

I was wandering if there will be an issue with the new PCM talking to the original BCM even though they have been linked, or is it something to do with the VATS?

i have had my laptop connected with tuner pro, but all the dash outputs just spin around like crazy and the in the DTC section the codes just flash green and red like crazy to, i beleive it is all wired up correcly but i am unsure of were to go from here.

any ideas would be appreciated

The s/c computer is memcal and the n/a is flash. How did you do the swap? Do you have the correct echo settings for your interface? What sort of interface? And which adx are you using?

Vats cuts fuel after 4 seconds so no spark and no initial fire means there is a problem before vats comes in to the picture.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

He has the ecu off of the donor car and his original BCM.

i didnt do the swap, i was hand balled the job after a mistake on his behalf. what information do you need?

Can you please explain the echo setting for the interface?, im not sure what thats about ;)

im using yoda69 ADX of of the website, but i have tried both in the VY folder.

ahk that makes sense about the VATS

it should have spark at crank even with the ecu removed if you have no spark and have replaced the CAS check for power at the DFI module first also check for power at the injectors. ECU only switches earth to the injectors most of the time if you have power at the injector you should have power to the dfi. VATS kills the earth switching to the injectors only. I hope that helps wiring diagrams for the dfi are in the wiring section on this site I'm sure there is a vy engine diagram too.

Ahk, ill have alook tommorow night, i have changed the DFI with a known good one and no change but will check for power at he DFI, thanks for that guys, according to my wiring diagram the DFI earths through the block, so a bad earth will stop spark and injectors correct? also it looks like the DFI module is supplied with power via the EFI relay, so if i have no power there that would be my next plan of attck, so just to conlucde. if the PCM and the BCM are up in the air it shouldnt matter, i should still have spark unless there is no power to the DFI.

thanks again guys

if it cranks for more than 3-5 seconds the bcm is happy with the key. spark is stand alone until engine run rpm threshold is reached ecu cant stop spark so look for power earth and switching to find that fault. once you have spark if you still have a no start situation look at flashing the ecu with vats off or confirm pairing to the bcm with a scantool if you have access to 1 with the ability to do it.

yeh itll crank all day so thats good, yeh so it should have spark all the time considering the no start situation, does the DFI also decide if i have injector pulse, or even just poer to the injectors? yeh ill will look into the flashing, can i turn VATS off with tuner pro?, if so is there a link?

DFI and Injector 12V + is off the same feed. You need VATS and CAS signal for injector pulse. Flashing a VX VY PCM isn't for the feint hearted. There's a write up in the FAQ and Flash Tool section.
