VY v6 sedan cluster into Vu ss ute conversion

Post by defekt »

Hey guys first post here after been reccomended your advice ...

So heres my situation

I have a vu ss ute and a written off vy v6 sedan

So far ive convertes the front of the ute to vy and now i
Want to do the interior (to poor to by a vy ss ute)

So as far as the cluster go's where do i start?

Rewire the vy plug onto the vu loom?

Cut the vy loom at the firewall and then cut the vu loom n splice vy back to vu front?

Do i have to use a ls1 cars dash?
Ive been told i need a pim

So basicly guys i have no friggen idea n would really like some help before i cut shit lol

If anyone can say you need this this and this then do this n this it would be awsome,

If not im going to pull apart a vx dash and a vy dash and modify the facia of the vx/vu dash to Ressemble somthing like a vy dash

Sorry for the bogus question guys im new to ecu stuff

Im sure as you have read.. theres tonnes of threads from people attempting to perform what you are doing.

Need more information on what exactly your intending on swapping over before you can really work out what to do next.

Are you putting in all the VY modules components? Or just the cluster? Entire aircon system? ect.

Heres a simply sketch to how your VU currently works:

ECU<->PIM<-> Rest of car modules

If you swap the entire interior (Modules, seats, airbags, trims ect and all) then you would swap everything except the PIM. The PIM will translate the data from the body modules to the ECU and vice versa.

Id imagine..the only cutting you MAY need to do.. is to splice the PIM into the new VY body modules.

All guess work mate... Im sure theres gonna be alot of trial and error there.

Hey tazzi

Im putting the vy seats, cluster, dashboard, aircon controls, light switches, handbrake and steering wheel into the vu

My concerns are

Do the v6 cars have a pim? Or do i have to outsource one from a vy ls1 vehicle?

Will i need a vy ls1 ecu as i have one from my 260kw vy hsv senator(auto) i could use

From what ive read alot of guys are saying the vy das has 21 wires the vu has 19? Im guessing this is probably got to do with the pim?

Basicly im converting the car to vy apperance inside and out

I know buying a vy ss ute would have been the easy option but at 10k it was out of my price range and i brought the vu ute of a mate who was in desperate need for cash for 3800 so it was an awsome price for the ute..

Or would i be better off getting a vy v8 manual loom cluster and pim and key out of a single donor vehicle to simplify the situation?

Cheers mate

The 0411 (ls1) pcm talks VPW not ALDL so the pim is a translator between VPW and ALDL. Its not on/required on the V6 so you will need to install one. You can use the HSV PCM but will likely need to put the an ss ute tune on it due to hardware differences (eg variable speed fuel pump? Not sure on details). You will likely need to figure out any wiring differences and make changes to suit, you will need to link computer and bcm/key, and probably reprogram the dash to suit configuration of the new car (which airbags are present, maybe settings for fuel level resistance settings so the guage reads correctly).
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

By the sounds of it, you reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaly need to get your hands on some wiring diagrams, preferably a workshop manual for both vehicles so you can compare both systems and see exactly what you are going to need to do.

Do note you are trying to mix and match two different vehicles, so there is surely going to be a few headaches involved.
Right so your essentially swapping everything over interior wise.. so all of that needs to be dumped in, but keep the VU SS PIM, and wire that into the new body loom.
The engine side of things to the PIM shouldnt need to be touched.

Next on the hitlist would be security linking everything together so you can actually start the vehicle. Your probably also going to wire in the windows, locks ect unless you intend on swapping those out also.

Dash will require reprogramming to suit engine, and VU fuel tank setup.

Can't think of anything else at this moment.. Theres no written guideline for every step your gonna have to take. Gonna have to essentially take the plunge and start swapping it all over.
